D4VE is a hilarious sci-fi look at living a mundane life By Casandra Massey "D4VE" is a breath of fresh air in a world of comics that often takes its robots and aliens and their ensuing battles a little too seriously. "D4VE" is the kind of book that's not afraid to through a masturbation joke or two in the midst of an end-of-the-world alien invasion. Sure, it's juvenile as hell, but it's also very funny. "D4VE" is the first comic I've read in a long time that really lived up to the name funny book."D4VE" tells the story of a world, nay universe, that has been taken over by robots. Once slaves to humans, robots rose up against their masters. Not happy with just earth, they took over the whole universe until robots were the only sentient beings left. After all the death and destruction, the robots, who were programmed by humans, decided to start doing human things like have jobs. D4VE was once a warrior robot, but now he is relegated to an office job, longing for his days defending earth. Now instead of worrying about what alien he needs to kill next, he has to worry about much more domestic and mundane problems like his wife, the son they just ordered and his horrible boss."D4VE" is a perfect satire of the every day rat race. It feels like "Office Space" meets "Falling Down" meets "I,Robot." And it's just as messed up as that combination would be.I've not seen anything else by Ryan Ferrier, but I can't wait to see what he has coming next. His imagination is only equaled by his sense for comedy which are both wayyyy out there (in a good way).I highly recommend this book to anyone with an irreverent sense of humor. It's way juvenile, but it's also fairly smart. Basically the best of both worlds.

By Wayne A McCoy 'D4VE' by Ryan Ferrier with art by Valentin Ramon is a slow building story that ultimately won me over with it's quirky humor and nihilistic violence. The robot revolution is over, the humans have been eradicated and D4VE has emerged a hero. That was then, this is now. D4VE has a dead end job with a boss he hates. He thinks his wife might be seeing someone else, and they just adopted a juvenile delinquent robot for a son. He daydreams about the glory days, but exists far from them hoping for a chance to once again shine.I wasn't sure what to think at first, but it eventually won me over. I liked the quirky robot world that seemed like middle class America. I liked the art and the story. It's a poke at the workaday world, and midlife crises, and I liked the ennui that comes across. D4VE has a crappy life, but that's at least partially his fault. I loved the references to Bill Gate, Steve Jobs, etc. It's definitely in the rated R category for the humor and level of violence.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
