In January 2011 I decided to try my next diet. I had been exploring different diets for about 20 years by this point but this next one was different. This one made sense, common sense. I had already been a big proponent of getting back to our roots and getting as natural as possible. I had also recently been exposed to the theory that the Agricultural Age was the beginning of the demise of mankind. Mass producing food just did not seem natural, and when I found that there was a way to eat that supported my beliefs, I was all in. Before I could finish The Paleo Diet by Robb Wolf, I was blasting all over social media about how this was the only way to eat. I was even, for a short while, the Paleo police and would criticize people who were not following the “rules” to a tee. Realizing I was being a jerk, I gave up my badge for the Paleo police but I continued making posts and bragging about my progress. I even started taking on personal training clients after taking a break for many years. To me, eating this way was the missing ingredient to my success as a personal trainer. Within six months of going paleo, I lost around 35 pounds, dropped to a weight I had never seen as an adult, and accomplished things I never thought I could do, like run four miles barefoot and do pull-ups and ring dips. The transformation was amazing. Over the years I’ve received several inquiries from friends and family on Facebook asking how I achieved these results. My advice was simple: eat these foods, don’t eat these foods, and read these books. Every single person I gave this advice to, failed miserably. I couldn’t understand why when it was exactly how I got results! I would even get a little frustrated (maybe a lot) at the fact that people weren’t achieving good results with the advice I was giving them. In my mind, I gave great advice. Then someone pointed out to me that not everyone was like me. Not everyone was a gung-ho, all or nothing, do-it-now type of person. That’s when I sat down and started creating this program.

The Complete Guide to Primitive Eating: A self paced, step by step guide to ease the paleo diet into your life., by David Soto Jr.

Review "I actually liked this book because of its gradual approach to Paleo. I didn't think I would because I have read so many "Introduction to Paleo" books out there that most of the information starts to bleed together. In this case, it didn't. David Soto, Jr. provides one of the best step-by-step plans I have ever read on transitioning from the SAD (Standard American Diet) to the Paleo/Primal diet." ~Charles Franklin, blogger at This College Dropout

About the Author David was born in Gardena, California and spent most of his childhood in Los Angeles. In high school, his family moved to a small town in Missouri. At age 17, David joined the Air Force and spent the next 23 years toggling between active duty Air Force and Missouri Air National Guard. In 2002 he was deployed under Operation Enduring Freedom and in 2004 he went to Iraq as a civilian contractor because his Air Guard Unit would not send him themselves. Throughout the years, when not in uniform, David tried his best to fit into society. He got a job, went into debt to buy a house and a car, and tried to find a girl to marry and start a family with. None of these seemed to work out for him. Instead, he felt best on the road. At the age of 30, he sold most of his possessions, put his house up for rent, hit the road, and (more or less) hasn’t stopped since. Currently, David works with clients as a life, small business, and wellness coach. He writes and speaks about how to regain your freedom through simplification. He calls it: Primitive Living. You can learn more about his philosophy at www.theprimitiveyou.com.

By Charles Franklin I actually liked this book because of its gradual approach to Paleo. I didn't think I would because I have read so many "Introduction to Paleo" books out there that most of the information starts to bleed together. In this case, it didn't. David Soto, Jr. provides one of the best step-by-step plans I have ever read on transitioning from the SAD (Standard American Diet) to the Paleo/Primal diet. Each step is given concisely, but with enough detail and guidelines so you know when to move on to the next step. His speaks in straightforward, sometimes "in-your-face" language, but I didn't mind it. If you want to get serious about transitioning into the Paleo diet, this book will definitely help you do that.As a result of reading this book, I now have a clearer idea of how I want to "upgrade my Paleo transition" and began following the author on social media and his blog. I found out about him through the GymMyth.com podcast and connected with his story of persistence through struggle with food, poverty, and redefinition. I bookmarked the book to buy, but actually won the book in a contest through the blog. (That was freaking amazing!) I enjoyed the book and look forward to learning more from this guy.

You don't have to be a paleo nut to benefit from this book By Seth Mr. Soto has done a good job of consolidating a strategy of healthy living into a brief, easy to read book. I am not a proponent of the paleo diet, but do work to attain a 'less processed' method of eating and living. I already make most of my food from ingredients versus dumping something out of a box, but the food journal was something I hadn't seriously considered. I have just started my food journal and will begin to eliminate foods that have detrimental effects. Writing things down instead of keeping them in your head assists in accountability and not justifying deviations from the plan. The driving force behind this book follows one of the most primitive human psychological traits: habit. Instead of giving a predetermined timeline such as 'accomplish this in 30 days', it provides approximate timelines or an 'after you have followed this step successfully for X days, then move on', allowing people to occasionally fall off the wagon for a day or two and get back on. Forming new habits takes time, repetition, and personal determination.

Concise, well-written, non-preachy guide to rolling into primitive eating By James Holmes David's done a great job with this concise, approachable guide for moving to a primitive diet. Two things about this book really resonated with me. First, David avoids the preachy tone far too many diet/eating guides use regardless of what they're covering.Secondly, David lays out a great path to rolling into primitive eating: it's a series of timeboxed single tasks to focus on. Example: Step 9 is to shop for fresh food three times a week over a two week span. This approach is great because David lays out a path to follow for lifestyle change, rather than trying to get readers to adopt an avalanche of dramatic, overwhelming changes. It's a great book for those interested exploring this fascinating eating style.

This delightful collection of short stories from acclaimed writer Susan Gabriel (The Secret Sense of Wildflower, a Best Book of 2012 by Kirkus Reviews), is rich in humor, as well as mystery and meaning.

Whether white or black, living or dead, down home country or upscale urban, Gabriel's characters are quirky, poignant, and deep. They include: A Gullah woman using folk magic to cast her latest spell. A girl coming-of-age dealing with death in 1940s Tennessee. A wealthy Savannah matriarch with gastrointestinal issues guarding family secrets. A good ol' boy observing himself shortly after his death. An agoraphobic woman striking up a unique friendship with the girl across the street. And a band of 70-year-olds finding healing in a mountain stream.

Written in the tradition of Flannery O'Connor and Eudora Welty, the eight short stories in Grace, Grits and Ghosts: Southern Short Stories are all rooted in the southern landscape - from the steamy coast of Georgia, to the current day Atlanta suburbs, to the ancient Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina.

Pull up a rocker on the front porch, take a sip of your sweet iced tea, and lose yourself in these original stories of soulful southerners and their sultry landscape.

Burnside Ever since her compelling "The Secret Sense of Wildflower" Susan Gabriel has been one of my favorite authors and her skill as a writer and storyteller is emphasized again in this book. This wonderful collection of stories, each with very different angles, had me hooked from the first page. The characters run the gamut from darkly haunting and mysterious all the way to eccentrically hilarious and that is because they are all born from the same land - the haunting, mysterious, eccentric South. My favorite, if I had to pick, would be the insightful and poignant look into the shuttered life of an agoraphobic woman with its unexpected conclusion. Truthfully though, it's probably a tie with the others, and I can certainly say, that after the two glimpses into the author's new book "Temple Secrets" I'm looking forward to reading it, too!

"Iris Temple had been threatening to die for three decades and most of the people in Savannah who knew her, wanted her to get on with it." This is a writer who knows the South, its characters, and its setting. Gabriel's story not only make the reader laugh but also brings empathy to a group of women who meet later in life to put "toxic memories" to rest. Meet Scarlett and Rhett, two pampered dogs in a baby stroller, and say farewell to Bluebird Crawford and his wife Maggie. This is a collection of short stories to be read and enjoyed on the back porch with a glass of sweet tea.

An easy read, but very poignant as the stories unfold a glimpse into the lives of these women who are so shaped by their environment. You feel their pain and recognize their strengths as they struggle to cope and the end of the story leaves you wanting to know more. The syntax of the writing is right on and captures the rhythm of Southern speak. The characters truly emerge thru their own words and the descriptive phrasing of the author. If you are from the South, you will recognize these women and if you are not from the South, you will gain a window to a facet of what it means to be Southern!

As a result of a rigorous, methodical process that (ISC)² follows to routinely update its credential exams, it has announced that enhancements will be made to both the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) credential, beginning April 15, 2015. (ISC)² conducts this process on a regular basis to ensure that the examinations and subsequent training and continuing professional education requirements encompass the topic areas relevant to the roles and responsibilities of today’s practicing information security professionals.

Refreshed technical content has been added to the official (ISC)² CISSP CBK to reflect the most current topics in the information security industry today. Some topics have been expanded (e.g., asset security, security assessment and testing), while other topics have been realigned under different domains. The result is an exam that most accurately reflects the technical and managerial competence required from an experienced information security professional to effectively design, engineer, implement and manage an organization’s information security program within an ever-changing security landscape.

The domain names have been updated as follows:

CISSP Domains, Effective April 15, 2015

  • Security and Risk Management (Security, Risk, Compliance, Law, Regulations, Business Continuity)
  • Asset Security (Protecting Security of Assets)
  • Security Engineering (Engineering and Management of Security)
  • Communications and Network Security (Designing and Protecting Network Security)
  • Identity and Access Management (Controlling Access and Managing Identity)
  • Security Assessment and Testing (Designing, Performing, and Analyzing Security Testing)
  • Security Operations (Foundational Concepts, Investigations, Incident Management, Disaster Recovery)
  • Software Development Security (Understanding, Applying, and Enforcing Software Security)
  • Some candidates may be wondering how these updates affect training materials for the CISSP credential. As part of the organization’s comprehensive education strategy and certifying body best practices, (ISC)² training materials do not teach directly to its credential examinations. Rather, (ISC)² Education is focused on teaching the core competencies relevant to the roles and responsibilities of today’s practicing information security professional. It is designed to refresh and enhance the knowledge of experienced industry professionals.

Gillette This very boring book is more for a security professional to have on his or her desk as a reference rather than a study tool for the CISSP exam. There is a LOT of material in it that you don't need to know for the exam. For example, DR is gone over in painstaking detail. That's fine, but the CISSP exam is a mile wide/inch deep, so you will end up wasting a lot of studying time. Also there is a lot of redundancy throughout the book so more wasted studying time.My main beef with the book is that it's unnecessarily wordy and highbrow. Here's an example."Specifically, what the security architect needs to accomplish through the investment of this time is to gain a better understanding of the usage scenarios that each stakeholder brings to the system in question and what the intricacies of those scenarios are in order to perform a risk analysis against them, and as a result, he or she will gain a better understanding of the powerful threats and vulnerabilities to be addressed as part of any defenses that may be planned and implemented".Good gawd, I almost fell asleep while typing that out. That sentence could easily be cut in half. Here's another example."Several common methods of cryptography exist including stream-based and block ciphers. The information security professional must have a basic understanding of both to ensure further understanding of encryption implementations."The second sentence is unnecessary. It just adds weight to the book. There are a ton of sentences like that all throughout the book. One more."Computers are inherently designed for predictability not randomness. Computers are so thoroughly deterministic that they have a hard time generating high-quality randomness. Therefore, special purpose built hardware and software called "random number generators," or RNG's, are needed for cryptography applications. The U.S. federal government provides recommendations on deterministic random number generators through the NIST. An international standard for random number generation suitable for cryptographic systems is sponsored by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 18031. A rigorous statistical analysis of the output is often needed to have confidence in such RNG algorithms. A random number generator based solely on deterministic computation done solely by a computer cannot be regarded as a true random number generator sufficient in lack of predictability for cryptographic applications because its output is inherently predictable."The last sentence is totally unnecessary. That was already stated in the first two sentences. I could give you many, many more examples but you get the picture. The publisher must have wanted to get this book out quickly to capitalize on the new CISSP exam so they opted to skip proofreading. Here's some proof for you."Iris scanning is the most accurate biometric technology.""Retina scan devices are probably the most accurate biometric available today".That's 4 points down the drain if I get a question on the exam about the most accurate biometric.I especially love this one."Some areas to consider are actions such as planning for delivery of office supplies to the alternate site, setting up a package delivery account for the alternate site like UPS or Airborne...."Airborne hasn't been around since 2003 when it got acquired by DHL.Go with the latest Shon Harris book, she does a much better job of explaining the material. Although it doesn't reflect the new 8 domains, it still has everything you need to know to pass the latest CISSP exam, and you won't be bored to death.

I hope (ISC)2 puts out a revised version By Damien After reading through the entire book, I am very disappointed with what I received for my money. The book appears as though it was put together in a hurry. I am missing 47 pages out of the middle of it (455 - 502), and there is a duplicate of the tail end of Domain 3 at the beginning of Domain 4. There are numerous spelling and grammatical errors, and one must hunt throughout the book to gather all of the information about a specific topic...as the index is extremely limited.I am sending my copy back for a refund. I understand that (ISC)2 had to update the CBK, but they could have taken a little extra time for editing, or could have done a better job of planning ahead for a release that coincided with the April 2015 changes.

60 of 66 people found the following review helpful. No sir, I don't like it. By josh Just to make sure there was one less copy of this book in existence, I put a few 5.56 rounds through it (see photos). I thought about selling it, but the fact that I took money from someone in exchange for this book would weigh too heavy on my conscious.Would not recommend. Author rambles too much about unneeded information. I'm a very studious person, but this book is INCREDIBLY difficult to read. The author will often use a paragraph to convey superfluous information instead of writing one concise sentence.***For example***Dogs are often bigger than cats.VsDogs are often bigger than cats. Because of this, they require more food and water, as well as a larger living space. This results in increased costs and extra energy expenditure to facilitate an adequate living situation for the dogs. In some cases, dogs and cats are the same size. When this occurs, the maintenance expenditure is about the same for both dogs and cats.I'm not joking or exaggerating about this example either. As someone who is a member of Techexams and has studied for many IT certs and done thousands of practice questions, I can say the end-of-chapter questions are low quality as well. This book was obviously rushed and it's a shame because the cover is so beautiful.Note to author/publishes/editors or whoever let this book reach the public: why would you do this? Is there a minimum page requirement issued by ISC2 or something?? If you're going to force a book to be 1400 pages, fill it with less trash and higher quality practice questions.

Daphne Lane leads an uncomplicated life as a travel journalist. Sure, she's lonely and has no real home. But the very best thing about the job? It got her out of Montana, away from her completely crazy Aunt Velma and her quirky, matchmaking friends. After a week back home in honor of her Aunt's birthday, Daphne is more than ready to escape to her next assignment. But Fate has other plans in the form of JT McCade, a sexy detective with a sensitive trigger finger. JT McCade is ready to settle down, find a nice, normal woman. Get a dog. He wants the whole white picket fence fantasy. When he pulls over a gorgeous woman doing 90 mph on a back road, an off-duty traffic stop completely ruins his vacation. Arresting Daphne wasn't part of the plan, but neither was a road trip across the west in a vintage RV with his crushed motorcycle playing the victim to Daphne's poor driving skills. A solo road trip would have been fine, but add Daphne, her Aunt Velma, Goldie, the towns most notorious meddler, Velma's crazy friend Ester Millhouse, and it turns into an adventure. Can JT and Daphne survive three geriatric matchmakers, a feral cat, a flying gnome, a mistaken identity as a porn star, a taser, and other twists of fate? Is this going to be the road trip from hell? Or will the insanity lead Daphne to the one place she's never really been...home.

As an avid fan of author Jennifer Zane, I have loved each and every one of her Gnome books. This, the fifth book in the series, tops them all. It all revolves around a garden gnome, and the zany matchmaking of Goldie and her friends. Daphne and JT star in this outrageously fun novel, and the heat and sparks between those two is scorching! While JT wants a nice, quiet life with a “good girl”, when he gets tangled up with travel reported Daphne Lane, all bets are off. She’s gorgeous, he’s ridiculously handsome, and with the help of Bozeman’s most notorious grandmother Goldie, two of her friends, a garden gnome, and a 1970’s RV, these two are off on a riotous ride that needs to be read to be believed! Who knows, but perhaps JT will get the life he’s dreamed of, in a way no one could ever have guessed. I did receive a complementary copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

You know what you're getting, and it's kind of fun to meet all the characters who pass through Goldie's adult shop in this small Montana town. I almost wish I lived there so I could work for her! Yes, they all have kind of the same feeling to them, but taken one at a time and in between bouts of science fiction or more serious reading they are a nice break from the gruesome realities of everyday life.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Easy to follow for beginners By AA I used this book to prepare labs and hands-on-exercises for an introductory Java programming course. My students had no prior exposure to Java or Object Oriented Programming. This book provides detailed walkthroughs that any beginner level Java programmer would find very easy to follow. Apart from being easy to read, this book provided good coverage of the most important topics that any programmer must learn, for example, I/O, Databases, GUI and Web services. Overall, I am happy to have incorporated this book in the syllabus.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Must Have for Any New Java Developer! By andrewforbes88 This is one of the best introductory Java books I have ever read. I've been learning Java for a few months now and I have run in to a few sticking points. I easily picked up some of the basic concepts but, like many new programmers I imagine, as I got further in I found that I was stuck on a few concepts. This book is what got me unstuck. It explains code in a much more practical way than other Java books that I have read. It has many sections where it will have you try out a concept from the book, then it will break down each piece of the code and show you what each component of it is doing in the big picture. This approach really helped me to understand the components of Java that I was having a hard time understanding.I have read a few other beginner Java books, you'll see Head First Java on every forum about the best beginner Java books, Head First Java is a great book, and I would recommend that as well as there are some fun projects in it, but this book is really the one that made things click for me.I also want to point out that this book delves in to other technologies that people use along with Java such as, JDBC, SQLJ, Hibernate, SOAP, REST, etc. If you're a beginner in development reading this review and you've never heard of those technologies don't worry, this book gives you a great foundation of knowledge about them and helps you to understand what situations you may need them for.Overall I would say this book is a must have for any new comer to Java. Feel free to comment on this review if you have any questions about my experience with this book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Contains up-to-date, practical, wide-ranging review of Hive’s functionality. Highly recommended. By Ian Stirk Hi,I have written a detailed chapter-by-chapter review of this book on www DOT i-programmer DOT info, the first and last parts of this review are given here. For my review of all chapters, search i-programmer DOT info for STIRK together with the book's title. This book aims to introduce you to a popular platform for storing and analyzing big data on Hadoop. How does it fare?Increasing amounts of data are being created, and there’s a need to store and process this data to gain competitive advantage. Hive is a popular platform for storing and analyzing big data on Hadoop. Hive tends to be popular because it uses a SQL-like syntax, familiar to many people. With plenty of built-in functionality, big data analysis can be done in Hive without advanced coded skills. The book is aimed at both the beginner and the more advanced audience (data analysts, developers, and users). Some previous experience of SQL and databases is advantageous.Chapter 1 Overview of Big Data and HiveThe chapter opens with a brief overview of the history of data processing, covering: batch, online, relational databases, and the internet. The latter has led to a massive rise in the amount of data being created, requiring new approaches to processing. This big data can be described in terms of various attributes including: volume, velocity and variety.Big data tends to be processed on relatively cheap commodity hardware, using a distributed processing. Hadoop is a popular platform for big data processing. The chapter discusses the major components of Hadoop:*Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) – storage system*MapReduce – computing system (distributes processing and aggregates results)*Associated components (e.g. HBase, Sqoop, Flume, Impala etc)Having described how we arrived at big data and Hadoop, the chapter proceeds with an overview of Hive. Hive allows you to issue queries against petabytes of data, using its Hive Query Language (HQL) which is similar to SQL. Hive gives a table structure to data held in HDFS. Using Hive allows simpler data processing, compared with similar code written in Java. This chapter provides a helpful background on how we arrived at today’s big data and Hadoop platform. An overview of Hadoop and its components is given, together with a very helpful diagram of the Hadoop ecosystem (e.g. HDFS, HBase, Sqoop, Impala, etc). A useful overview of Hive is provided, highlighting its purpose and advantages....ConclusionThis book provides up-to-date detail on Hive, a very popular platform for storing and analyzing big data on Hadoop. Most topics are explained in a very readable manner, a few sections could do with more detail (e.g. transactions). Throughout, there are helpful explanations, screenshots, practical code examples, and inter-chapter references. Some links to websites are provided for further information. This book is especially suitable for developers and data analysts starting out with Hive. Additionally, since it also contains advanced and up-to-date material, it is also suitable for more advanced developers/analysts. If you have a background in SQL the book is even easier to understand. There are very few books dedicated to Hive, and these tend to be out of date now (especially since Hive changes regularly). If you want an up-to-date, practical, wide-ranging review of Hive’s functionality, I highly recommend this book.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. a book with quite many well-designed examples By Ryan Given the hyped data science and big data framework buzzwords, the topic this book covers is definitely relevant and important to big data practitioners. The author appears to have a long and solid experience in the industry which gave him much practical knowledge on the subject. Having quickly skimmed through the book, my first impression is the book has a broad coverage of Apache Hive, ranging from the basic setup to security, data manipulation and the detailed explanation on the grammar, complemented with relatively straightforward examples. My current feeling is, as a thin book of 200 pages, it did quite a good job.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. this is really a good book to start reading By xulubo This is by far the most up to date book about Hive. It's been such a long time I've been waiting for a book to cover most stable and widely used Hive version. It is well written. All topics in each chapter are carefully picked and clearly presented for the all level of readers. You really do not need much programming or big data backgrounds to learn it. By reading the book, I strongly agree to the author that Hive will be the most important and popular tools of big data ecosystem for now and future. And most people can and should start the journey of big data from learning Hive. Of course, this is really a good book to start reading.

My life changed dramatically while caring for my elderly parents, and dealing with the roller coaster of emotions was a lonely experience. I didn't have the words to explain to anyone why I felt so off balance. When I read these stories, I knew it wasn't just me and that, maybe, I was going to be able to cope. This book has humour, insight and hope. Thank you for writing your book.

By Christian K Benner An easy read with a lot of heart and inspiration. I am not a caregiver, but I now understand more what my sisters and brothers go through with the care of our mother.

We've come a long way since the days of flashing banner ads and scrolling news tickers. Today, the stunning motion design of iOS and Android dramatically improves a user's experience - instead of detracting from it. The best sites and apps of today leverage animation to improve the feel and intuitiveness of their interfaces. Sites without animation are starting to feel antiquated. This book provides you with a technical foundation to implement animation in a way that's both visually stunning and programmatically maintainable. Throughout, we consider the balance between enriching a page with motion design while avoiding unnecessary flourishes Readers will learn how to design loading sequences that ensure users stay fully engaged instead of tuning out, how to leverage simple physics principles to make apps respond naturally to users' input (just like motion behaves in the real world), how to exploit CSS transforms to create rich depth in animations, and how to fully leverage JavaScript animation libraries like Velocity.js to streamline animation programming. From animation performance to theory, we cover everything needed to become a professional web animator. Whether you're a novice or professional web developer, this book is for everyone. Why is all of this so important? Why is it worth your time to become a professional motion designer? For the same reason that designers spend hours perfecting their pages' font and color combinations, motion designers perfect their animations' transition and easing combinations: Refined products feel superior. They leave users whispering to themselves, "Wow, this is cool", right before they turn to a friend and exclaim, "You gotta try this."

Here's the chapter breakdown.` By Jeff Peterson Great book.Since no one else has bothered to do a chapter breakdown, here’s my stab at one:- Intro: A love letter to motion design (the book’s term for animation)- Chapter 1: Walkthrough of why you’d use JavaScript instead of CSS for animation- Chapter 2: A technical overview of how to perform animation in JavaScript- Chapter 3: analysis of what constitutes great animation, along with practical examples- Chapter 4: A fascinating, original take on how to implement animation into a professional web development workflow (my favorite chapter)- Chapter 5: How to animate text (quite interesting)- Chapter 6: Quick introduction to animating SVG elements- Chapter 7: Extensive deep-dive into how to ensure animations run smoothly- Chapter 8: A nice animation demo that ties together the knowledge from the previous chapters

17 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Worth it. Hard to find this material elsewhere. By David Credo It's pretty hard to find good technical literature on web animation, which is really a shame. As a web developer, I first got interested in motion design when I downloaded an amazingly well-designed app on my phone. Been chasing that level of quality ever since. There’s iOS animation then there’s web animation, and they’re entirely separate things. I heard of Velocity.js (author’s animation engine) through work and then began experimenting with it to see if I could recreate some of the more interesting motion design examples I've stumbled into on sites like CodePen and the like.I wasn’t expecting the author to also release a book on this very subject. So, pleasantly surprised, here I am.First off, the bad: This book is not very long. You’re not going to become a better designer through it’s myriad examples. In fact, it has only one full-on demo (the final chapter). That’s about it for the bad.The good:- The book provides you with a real foundation. I’m an advanced software engineer, but I easily see this being equally as applicable to novices.- The book takes a really digestible, fluff-free recipe format that builds slowly and more or less climaxes in a really fascinating final demo chapter.- The topics covered in here are topics I honestly haven’t seen covered elsewhere — so that’s refreshing.- The more unique topics include text animation, animation performance (a real deep-dive, not superficial advice), and animation workflow.- Animation workflow alone is worth buying this book for, and is worth dealing with the fact that this book primarily focuses on Velocity (not a big deal). Not the best JavaScript book I’ve read, but it definitely ranks up there. Certainly one of the top technical books I’ve read, especially on the topic of web animations.

Web Animation is the best front-end coding book I've read By Tim Dalrymple I have 4.5 years behind me as a full-time developer, and a lifetime as a hobbyist. I have been wondering for a while now about the prospects of working my way into the higher skilled areas of web animation. This is one of the few programming books I savored. Like another reviewer said, I haven't seen most of the content written elsewhere, particularly the chapters on text animation and animation performance. I've read 1 or 2 articles on these topics online but never actually read anything that completely breaks down the topics in bible/recipe format. All the while, the book continually (successfully) contextualizes how best practices should be used and what the balance is between going over the top with animations and keeping them subtle. Really a big fan of this. I also recommend reading the work of Aerotwist. He has related content.
