Lock up your grandmothers! . . . When rock's former biggest rebel loses everything, he's forced to call in favors from all the rock star royalty whom he'd burned his entire career. With a trashed comeback tour, creditors on his ass, no record deal, a health issue he doesn't even know how to spell, and nothing but a few bucks from the sale of his last guitar, Mike Mays is destitute for the first time in his rock star life. He's forced to crash his estranged, uptight daughter's tidy world, and when she kicks him out, to couch-surf halfway around the world at a ragtag farmhouse in Tuscany called Groove House--home to a pack of aging ex-rock stars, who aren't thrilled to see him. Mike creates chaos at every turn, bulldozing everyone in his path. His raunchy offstage antics snagged headlines back in the '70s and '80s, but can the aging bad boy bluff his way out of his worst bungle yet and actually stage a comeback?

Everything about this frisky novel riffs true. In case you didn’t live it, you can simply read and revel with the cast of hell raising elders. As one character puts it “some of us were even around in the 70s.” She says it like it means something and it does. These faded stars were ever only serious about one thing: their music. Jill Meniketti couples big arena sensibility with backstage savvy to kick this crazy tale up a notch. In this books’ authentically raw vocabulary, having a “chick” pen the tome adds heart to what could be just another tale of sex and drugs and ripped off rock licks. There are unchecked egos, plagiarism allegations and too much money blown, much of it up nostrils. But these guys are getting on in years. Mike Mays does his best to stage a comeback tour, but he’s rode the highway harder than most and has a host of health problems to prove it. When he collapses on stage, he ends at the doorstep of an unlikely relative who is anything but happy to see him.Has Mike finally reached the end of his road? No money, no guitar, no chick, not even a roof he can call his own. And his family wants him out of their home so bad they buy the guy a one-way ticket to a rocker retirement home in Italy. Here Mike meets many former rivals and a few old flames. He also begins to mend fences and conjurs a crazy idea to stage an all-star event to save the geezer villa from back taxes and bankruptcy. Will Mike get the has-beens on board? Will they ever forgive him for all the selfish deeds he’s done? Will they live to see their big Hollywood Bowl come-back come true? Lots of questions and don’t think one of them will be answered the way you expect. This scribbling woman, rock wife and manager, knows her way around the w

This book takes you behind the scenes of the rock and roll world that is unknown to most of us. You will experience what it must be like to crash and burn after living the high life as a famous rock star. The author also captures the essence and beauty of Tuscany (which takes me back to my visit there).... "Ben scritto"!! Recommended reading while enjoying a nice glass of Brunello de Montalcino :) Loved all the interesting characters and escapades of this group of "vintage" rockers. Would absolutely LOVE to see this on the big screen. Enjoy everyone!

That's exactly how I felt as I was reading Welcome to Groove House. This story, though fictional, reads as truth. As a child of the 80's and frequenting many, many rock shows, I just loved this book. Jill's got the inside scoop and has lived the rock n' roll life, both as the wife of a rock star and also as a manager of a great band that tours worldwide. All of the characters were such fun, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen. The main character, Mike Mays, makes you love him, hate him, root for him, curse him and sometimes even cry for him. Would Mays disappoint yet again? Would he come through? I'd love to see this made into a movie! I'm hoping that there will be a prequel or a sequel! If you love rock n' roll, or just want a great story, pick up a copy of Welcome to Groove House!
