One of the cutest children's books I've seen with a simple message that will help your little one throughout life By Steve I have to say, I loved this book in so many ways. It seems that merchandising of characters has become the only way we can shop for children these days. All you can find are Mickey Mouse blankets, Cookie Monster diapers, Snoopy pillows, Bugs Bunny band aids, and so on.The illustrations in this book by Tim Warnes are the star of the show. The main character of the book isn't a "star", he's just an adorable little bear just going through his daily life of waking up, eating breakfast, playing with friends, and having a picnic. The illustrations are colorful, bright, and as you can see in this example has details that will engage youngsters.The story by PJ Lyons consists of simple and short rhymes where the little bear realizes that he can give thanks for all the wonderful things in his life.What I love about this book is that it teaches 1 Thessalonians 5:18 without even having to cite chapter and verse. It shows this cute little bear living it out, understanding the lesson we grown-ups often forget that everything wonderful in our lives is given to us by God and that with a humble heart we should give thanks, not just mouthing the words when saying grace but by experiencing them in our lives.As a father, something else I really appreciate is an appearance from the little bear's dad, pouring juice for the little guy at breakfast time and spending time to play with him later in the book. It's sad that the appearance of a good father role model seems to be so rare these days in portrayals of families in media (more often than not, the dad is either bungling or absent altogether), but I was happy to see it here.The hardcover book is solid board book with 16 pages and full color throughout. The cover is thicker, padded stock. While the age range says 4-8 years, I think 8 might be a little too old--it's definitely a book for much younger children from, say, 3-6--from 3-5 you're probably going to be reading it to him but by age 5-6, he should start being able to read some things for himself.Sometimes Christian children's books seem a little like they're trying too hard to get children's attention with gimmicks like stickers or attempting to take adult concepts and "dumb them down" for kids. Where I love this book is that it's simple and tells a wonderful story using natural language and concepts that small kids can understand, with a simple message that will be one of the most powerful for them if they can continue to practice it growing up.This one is very highly recommended, it's one of the top children's books I've reviewed to date. and one I'll definitely be sharing with my little one, hopefully over and over again.

It's pretty easy to be thankful in the big things like a new bike or a long anticipated vacation destination. But what about the every day things all around like breakfast and picnics and a game of tag with friends?P. J. Lyons has once again put together a wonderful rhyming poem that focuses on being thankful for the things that we encounter during our average days. Tim Warnes said on his website that he challenged himself to make the sweet little bear "the cutest, most endearing, softest little bear he could." I say he met the challenge and exceeded it. Designed with toddlers in mind this padded board book will be able to withstand the multiple readings from those sweet little hands. In case you are just needing an excuse to buy the book here's a little quote from the author about the book."I wrote this, along with some other stories, for a friend who wished the Sandra Boyton books her toddler loved had some take away value. (That toddler is now going into tenth grade.) These books (God Is Watching Over You comes out March 2016) contain all the sounds, or phonemes, in English. It's important for children to hear all these sounds to help them learn to speak and read. I think of them as Baby Einstein gets religion." (www.pjlyons.com)I love that! Now you can buy the book without any guilt because you are just helping your little one learn to speak and read. But seriously, Thanksgiving is right around the corner and this adorable little book would be a marvelous addition to your little one's personal library.I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. My Toddler Loved it! By Amazon Customer Thanksgiving is just around the corner and what better time to remind our kids to be thankful! I know it's something that doesn't come naturally to most children so they have to be taught. I have one child that always remembers to say thank you and frequently says "thank you for making me dinner" or "thank you for taking me shopping." This thanks is music to my ears as it was the way I was raised. I have another child, however, who it doesn't come naturally to and has to be constantly reminded. I think it's a good thing to instill in them at a very young age.Thank you, Lord, for Everything is a great book to help do that! It's a board book so it's designed for the younger crowd. I read it with my 21 month old today and he absolutely loved it. It instantly became one of those books that you have to read to them over and over again. What better message to drill in his head, over and over!I like books that rhyme for the little ones. It makes it more sing-songy which Jax tends to listen and pay attention to more. Since he's just a toddler, long books and uninteresting words don't go far with him. The repetition also helps as each page ended up with the same statement "thank you Lord for everything!" He's just putting together words and phrases now but I'm hoping this is one of the first sentences he remembers and says.The thing I like about this message is that it's a great reminder to be grateful for even the little things. Sometimes we forget to be thankful for food and shelter and things that we take for granted when there are those that do without. The little things to us are the big things to other and I think it's a great message to give our children as we approach the holiday season.The pictures are adorable and I think that's part of what kept Jax in tune. The first time through I pointed out some things I thought he'd like and remember since he's also learning to talk. I pointed out a ball, rabbit, bees and flowers. The next time through he pointed at them and said their names. Early reading is also a great tool for learning to talk and it's such a joy to share this with him.Thank you, Lord, for Everything became an instant favorite with my toddler and is a great book to read for the holidays and a message to reinforce all year!I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
