Since there is not much of a preview posted yet, here is a list of the chapters so you can get a better idea of the contents:1: Development Environments2: HTML5 for Mobile3: CSS for Mobile4: Service-Oriented Architecture5: Storing Data6: Audio and Video7: Geolocation8: Working with the Accelerometer9: Interfaces with jQuery Mobile10: Interfaces with jQuery Mobile Part II11: Other Important PhoneGap APIsAnswer Key*Appendix**Glossary*The Answer Key is not listed in the table of contents but appears on page 325.**The Appendix shows a diagram of the CSS box model (screen layout). Each chapter has a list of objectives, assorted subchapters (up to five), a chapter summary, and may have review questions and/or a lab exercise. The dedication page is cute."To the internet cats of the world. We would pet you all if we could."

It has exercises called labs to help you learn. It is NOT a book for complete beginners. You are expected to have basic knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, & JavaScript. The examples will run in a browser if you don't have a device handy and Chrome's developer mode has an option to emulate many different devices including Amazon Fire HD and iPhone, but it is not necessary to use it. I use Peppermint 5 OS and had some problems getting phonegap to work but it was easily solved with an internet search. There are some minor typos but they don't affect the the book to the point of being distracting. The discussions on SDK's could be a little clearer because it's not obvious if you need to install them or not.Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about Mobile Application Development.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. super useful for many reasons By Dr M. I find the book, MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT...., super useful for many reasons. MY TOP FOUR REASONS: FIRST, I love the CHAPTER OBJECTIVES ("you will learn," "able to," etc.)~nice to know what one will learn before reading the chapter. SECOND, I love the images (and colored coding), as it makes the learning process more visual [coding is visual after all] and accurate learning. Yes, I love those visuals in learning, as it ensures I AM on the right path! THIRD, I love the part of "WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED" and "QUESTIONS FOR REVIEW," as both reinforce what I have learned [or what I thought I learned but really did not so I need to back and learn it]. And FOURTH, "LAB EXERCISES"....now that is a really cool practical idea for the real world! "Do I really know it?"...well, those lab exercises will tell me this and will help reinforce what I learned!
