A Well Written, Personal Introduction to Assyrian Culture By Amazon Customer Potential: The Assyrian Quest for Identity is an insightful and excellent read. As a non-Assyrian it gave me great insight into a culture and history I knew little about. Drawing from personal experience, historical research and biblical insight, he introduced me to the Assyrian community, and I am thankful for it. I highly recommend this book!

By Marilyn Jacobs This book gives an appreciation to an ethnicity that is slowly being forgotten and disappearing – Assyrian – and encourages conversation and thought on the survival and importance of it in order to move forward and unite this ancient culture. It opens your mind to a worldly view and gives you a new perspective on the bible (passages and scriptures) and the interpretations that are taken from it with an emphasis and relation to ethnicity. How do we reach our human potential by preserving our ethnicity in a healthy manner with the fast paced environment that is before us today? More importantly, what does it mean to preserve your culture? What does it actually look like?Steve sheds light on these issues that many are facing, whether consciously or subconsciously. He gives reassurance in questioning our religious and ethnic struggles within a culture that is faced with various life decisions before us; primarily he puts an ease on how to find a balance in preserving your ancient culture while understanding the importance of coexisting within various cultures amongst you (American, Assyrian, Christian, etc) in order to ensure that you are reaching your full potential in life.I mainly appreciated how the author presented the book in an unbiased view, more of an informative piece in regards to the ancient Assyrian culture, and illustrated various examples of what this ancient culture is actually comprised of. As a second-generation Assyrian, I felt, I could easily relate to the message that the author was trying to attain, and I felt that everyone – whether Assyrian or not – could easily relate to the challenges that were presented, which would ensure them a sense of ease moving forward in life to acquire their full human potential.A great read for all – I would highly recommend.

Just calling oneself Christian is not enough and it requires a good knowledge of how God looks at things By Amir Amiri Christianity is nothing if not practiced. Potential describes how a true Christian belief can be utilized to overcome ethnic differences and unify a nation. Specifically, the Assyrian nation. Just calling oneself Christian is not enough and it requires a good knowledge of how God looks at things. As followers of Christ we need to follow his path towards any salvation whether it is the salvation of an individual or a nation. To know God one needs to live with Him. Today, facing persecution, the Assyrian nation needs God more than ever to stand tall and overcome persecution and this can only start from home. Just as Jesus said start from Jerusalem on to Samaria and then to every corner of the world. Every Assyrian needs to know that their home is their Jerusalem and as long as that is not built, Samaria and every corner of the world are unreachable. This book is a good read and a must for Assyrians. There are many good ideas in this book backed by solid Biblical verses.
