A treasure from the Golden Age of Comics By Uncle Mickey In the 1960s Archie Adventure/Red Circle Comics attempted a revival of Golden Age great, The Black Hood. Taking its storytelling style from the campy "Batman" TV show with the hero riding a ridiculous hobby horse, it lacked everything that made the original version so enjoyable. All you need do is read this powrhouse issue featuring a trio of crimefighting tales. The silly antics of the supporting character, Sarge, are mercifully brief, leaving patrolman Kip Burland to don his Black Hood disguise and bring the baddies to justice. The first-class artwork and simple, but effective stories make this a fine example of why hey still call the 1940s "The Golden Age of Comics." Be sure to skip "The Boy Buddies" filler story, which features the youthful sidekicks of The Shield and The Wizard.
