I started working as soon as I was old enough to fully understand that work was the only way I could ever amass any wealth. I reasoned if I stole, I’d better steal from someone smaller than me who had money and that was the hardest part of all because I didn’t know anyone smaller than me who had money. If I’d found someone, it just might have led me into a life of crime. Life’s funny, isn’t it? One does what one has to do. I’m glad I didn’t find a smaller someone with money. We didn’t have a lawnmower at our house; in fact we didn’t even have a lawn at our house, so mowing people’s lawns for money was out of the question, yes, some kids did things like that in my day to earn a dollar. No one realized one could stand around on a street corner and flag down cars so we could squirt water on them and call it a car wash. In fact, there weren’t any car wash places. Those businesses came along later. When one was 10 years old, back in my time, his money making opportunities certainly were limited. Money was hard to come by in those days, and as so a dollar was of greater value. Nowadays a dollar is easier to come by, but it isn’t worth near as much now as it was when I was a kid. These stories I wrote, some are mostly real, some are made up, and they were all written to entertain the reader. I love to tell stories; my grandfather, George Mason Wood was a story teller. All the neighborhood boys would sit at his feet for hours listening to him tell tales about cowboys and Indians, horses, and ghost stories. I guess the nut don’t fall too far from the tree.
