If's worth a read.Full disclosure: I was invited to read this shortly before publication. I liked it, so that's why I'm reviewing it.From the first page I was struck by the clear writing, and when I found myself smiling as I read, I knew I wanted to keep going. It's very much a fun, funny space adventure, without a super complicated plot, but I was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into the vividly drawn world and got immersed in it. It's a bit like imagining Han Solo's life before he got tangled up with the Star Wars freedom fighters. I definitely enjoyed reading to the point of chuckling and even laughing out loud in a number of places. The writing itself is the best part: there is a lot of craft and cleverness, and you'll want to read a few parts twice to get the double entendres. Some people may find there's more swearing and sexual references than they'd like but I personally didn't take it too seriously - it's a romp, and a fun space yarn, and just a fun, light read. I ended up really liking the characters, and I'd read more about them if it was coming..

By David Singer The short review is that this a fast-paced fun read.Despite the literary references (gotta love a shout-out to Melville) it is just non-stop fun. It was great in the same way that 'Galaxy Quest' was. It starts out feeling like a spoof of the genre and tropes, but by the end you realize that somehow you've been drawn into caring about the characters and understanding the background civilization.A great beach read... if you don't mind bringing your tablet to the beach.

It was a great romp-y read: smart, funny and sometimes silly. The humour is cleaver, and right up my alley, and I found myself not just silently amused but occasionally laughing out loud. The characters are well drawn and I would happily follow them into their next adventure (that's a hint, by the way: keep writing!).
