Excerpt from The Message From PatmosIt seems desirable to state in the beginning that this exposition of The Revelation seeks to present the obvious meaning of the Apocalypse as it appears in the text taken at its face value, including its many references to other parts of the Scriptures. We have not tried to force the book into the molds of any theory; but to ask, what does the book say and what does it evidently mean?In the pursuit of this purpose we have been led to pass criticism upon the premillennial view of the Apocalypse. We trust such criticism has not been unduly pressed; but since the view in question is somewhat prevalent at the present time, and is backed with a considerable literature it has received more than a passing notice in the present volume. This statement is made because the writer desires to disclaim antagonism to the premillennialists for whom he entertains a very high regard and whom he counts as his friends. About the Author Professor David S. Clark joined the Willamette faculty in January 2002. He is a frequent scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg and has held the Alexander von Humboldt and Max Planck Society research fellowships. Clark previously taught at the universities of Colorado, Houston, Louisiana State, and Tulsa. He was also the Inns of Court Fellow at Inner Temple in London (2000), the Fulbright Chair in Comparative Law at Trento University (1999), the Wing Tat Lee Chair in International and Comparative Law at Loyola University Chicago (1996), and the Dan Hopson Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at Southern Illinois University (1987).

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Revelation for the Man in the Pew By Chris Cole This is a facsimile reprint of a commentary originally published in 1921. Unlike many of the Kessinger reprints, this one is clear, with no missing pages, and the type, while antique, is large and easily readable.Clark approaches the Revelation from a Reformed, postmillenial, and preterist position. He concludes that it was written before the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD, and interprets much of the book as applying to that event. This is a very brief and nontechnical commentary. The interpretations are short, sometimes no longer than the verses themselves. The text is the King James Version. There is no Greek or Latin, and few references to other books in the Bible. That last may be the only weakness, since Clark does refer to other books, but without giving specific citations.This volume is easily read by the average layman. As I said, there is no Greek or Latin, and Clark also avoids technical theological jargon.

Not a technical commentary; it is a collection of explanatory remarks from a sermon series delivered by the author. "The Message From Patmos" discusses the book of Revelation from a historicist, preterist viewpoint. If you are looking for an antidote to the "Left Behind" series and other Apocalyptic Christian Fiction this is a good beginning read. It can be difficult to find in bookstores but Amazon delivered it on time and very affordable.

He has since recommended it to many people who have questions about end times and want something bibical and not make believe "Left Behind" theology.
