Bloody Brilliant By Darren Sutton Team Up is the resource every youth worker wishes they had after that fateful meeting with an angry dad, a particularly glaring failure of a parent workshop, or the hopelessness that follows a moment that exceeds our ministerial bandwidth as much as our parental experience. From start to finish, this book characterizes the honest, and sometimes harsh, reality of what it’s like to stay connected with parents as the primary influencers of faith development in the students we minister to and with. Phil does a masterful job of describing the frustration and insecurities of youth workers – and just when you’re about to say ‘Yeah!!! Exactly – see??!’, he rolls in with bright shining light on what it’s like to parent students from day to day. Then he levels out each chapter with practical steps and diagnostic questions on building and crossing bridges with parents for the sole goal of helping teenagers become better Christ followers.Though the book reads better in an English accent (Phil hails from across the pond), it’s a bloody brilliant resource for every youth workers who has ever had a clandestine meeting with a parent that somehow went just south of center. If you’re not a sporty person (like me), don’t let this book frighten you away. Even I, who doesn’t know a football from a Frisbee, understood every single word.
