From the Author "I am simply astounded by the technological advances that have happened in our lifetime.  I am grateful to be one of those people who is intrigued by the technology that's simple enough to be figured out (after a while) and then used to have more fun in life.It is that intrigue, I think, that ultimately makes it easy for me to find my way around in this brave new world!  And, then comes the joy of making new people connections and sharing it with others. My own in-depth journey into technology started with my first website  in 2004.  Since then I've developed a wide range of 'just enough' knowledge on the web to do what needs to be done accomplish simple end goals."

About the Author Known as "The Tech Savvy Senior," Sheila Finkelstein, is a 75 year-old grandmother whose business is Technology for Seniors Made Easy. Her "kids" (educators and business people) often come to her for "how-to's." Even her son who teaches computers to high school students came to her a couple of years ago to learn how to use Twitter! As a former teacher and current life coach, Sheila has had years of experience in honing her communication skills - -  the very skills that are so handy in supporting seniors to have fun while learning how to thrive in the age of technology.  First, she "tunes in" to expressed needs in order to discover just what is important to seniors, and  then establishes what they want to accomplish. Then, she sets up the simple, step-by-step instructions needed to accomplish your goals.  She also suggests programs and techniques you may not even know to ask about; programs and techniques that will allow you to easily and effortlessly communicate with family and friends, safely maintain important records, do your banking on-line, and quickly find entertainment venues. She  knows that some people, when looking at their computers, smart phones, or tablets, feel overwhelmed and out-of-touch about how to navigate in what feels like "foreign" territory and the need to learn a whole new language

Many Seniors find themselves stuck and unable to communicate beyond their tiny world on anything other than a telephone. At least the generation before me found themselves isolated. Today, technology allows us ways to not only communicate, but to educate, entertain, research, and step beyond the restrictions that disable us as we grow older. And yet, many seniors are intimidated by these technical gadgets.Sheila Finkelstein has written a delightful book guaranteed to make you laugh and learn right along with others from their mid-sixties to well over 100. I especially enjoyed the hints from Carol M Merchasin on the "Packing Pro" app which allows you to keep track of what you've packed. We store things at our winter destination each year. I never can remember exactly what I have in the south or what to take with me. This one tip alone was worth the cost of the book!I loved learning you can switch back and forth between your iPad and iPhone when reading a book. It's amazing what the "storage clouds in the sky" allow you to do to keep track of things to make your life easier and more manageable. Thank you Rebeca Tulloch! You will discover everything from tracking storms in your area through the Radar Scope app to collecting coupons before your next shopping excursion. You can even use Pages for word docs on your iPad.As an artist, I loved the tips on photo apps, PSExpress, Photo Studio. andPaper by 53 for drawing.Seniors will love the easy and conversational tone of the book. It provides tips and tutorials at the end plus a simple glossary to help you understand the terminology and make your journey to becoming connected again an easy transition. Thank you Sheila for a delightful and enlightening journey to enable seniors to reclaim their independence.

This delightful books shares delightful, first hand interviews with many Real Seniors using iPads! Most eagerly share their stories of how they use their iPads to stay connected with their children and grandchildren. How they do FaceTime and Skype with friends and family. Some are taking on line classes, or watch movies, read emails and more! Some are in business and handle a lot using their iPads! Not only are there stories. Sheila includes a list at the end, of all the different apps they used. She has a site with endless tutorials to get you started or unstuck and she will even answer questions if you email her from her site! Whenever I get stuck on mine, I pop right over to her site!It was such a Joy to read this book and find out how these seniors, one is 101 years old, are using technology to remain engaged with their friends and family and be more engaged with life! I began to think how many lonely people could feel a LOT more connected if they had one and began using it! The cost for the book is low and I think many people will feel more inspired to try new things like this! You can begin by reading some free books, or learn how to navigate your way around town while you drive! It’s amazing how much more fun and joy an iPad can bring into our lives! I personally love my photo apps which allow me to create magic with my photos and music apps which allow me to create my own music for fun!! I loved reading this book when she first sent me a copy to check over, and it truly inspired me to use it my own iPad in more ways! I highly recommend this inspiring book if you have a special Senior in your life!I hope eventually this book is available in many places to help inspire more senior citizens to engage with technology! Some of these people also have a Kindle and various models of cell phones. There is room for all different kinds of companies to profit the more seniors are inspired to try out these new technologies! They also can live more productive and happy lives and not feel so alone! This kind of book does just that! One might purchase an Apple iPad, an Android phone, and a Dell computer! Let's embrace whatever works for each individual! Thank you Sheila for this wonderful book!

My experience has been that many older citizens are afraid of new technology: afraid that they cannot learn it; afraid that they will somehow “break” the computer, or the cell phone, or the iPad. This book will help to dispel those fears."Real Seniors Using iPads: Over 100 Fun, Easy Ways to Learn Connect Communicate" shows that it is fun, no big deal to learn, easy peasy. It is informative, useful, and by modeling elder citizens, some over one hundred-years-old, it gives readers a go-by to give it a go. One of my favorites is the woman who took a bathtub tray, put it across the arms of her treadmill, and used it to hold her iPad. Brilliant! I'm implementing that ASAP.Included are lists of apps, such as skymap, which shows the constellations, Watch ABC, apps for movie streaming, card games, Kindle (yes, you can download your Kindle books to the iPad) and many, many more. This book would be a fantastic gift to an elder! I learned a ton of information, and I was already quite savvy.Methinks Apple should be giving this book a glance, because that’s all it takes to see just how informative and useful this book is.
