Reverend Daniel Ferguson and his wife are the parents of three girls, twenty-year-old Olivia, eight-year-old Gayle and eighteen-month-old Dani. Mrs. Ferguson seems healthy which is why it is a surprise to everyone when she has to go to the hospital. Olivia promises her dying mother that she will help her father care for her two young sisters. With Olivia’s help, Reverend Ferguson somehow begins to manage his grieving family and new responsibilities. But when he meets and marries a woman who is virtually unknown to the family, conflict arises as Olivia fights to keep the promise she made to her mother. Years pass and Reverend Ferguson dies of a heart attack. The sisters face another turning point -- Olivia vehemently battles to care for her sisters; Gayle desperately wants to make it on her own; and baby sister Dani surreptitiously battles issues of abandonment. A series of unexpected occurrences draws the sisters into adverse situations and they struggle with a dark secret... a secret that could once again drive the family apart and test their faith in God.

I have always been into thrillers, dinosaurs & some sci-fi. However...I am so glad I chose to read this book. This is the story of 3 sisters, pastors daughters, growing up in Louisiana. Each character is beautifully developed to the point that I felt like I could picture what each one looked like...which is very important to me. It made me laugh...worry....cry...but most of all...it lifted me up. Unlike many books that sometimes get too wordy, to the point you find yourself skimming through certain parts, this one does not do that at all. I savored each and every word and felt like I personally knew each sister by the time I finished the book. This is definitely one of those books that I will read again one day...and will enjoy it all over again. Fantastic job, Mrs. Dunn...I can't wait to see more from you in the future.

By Cheryl Peebles The trials and tribulations of family and faith are illustrated through natural dialogue, against the background of home town life. I was immediately drawn into the story, and could not put it down until the ride had come to a complete stop! I highly recommend this book!

It is the American story, one that has dreams, pain, joy, overcoming obstacles while maintaining your family and faith. This is really true when you consider that the African-American Woman has been the backbone in the African-American Community and has been asked in repeated generations to fulfill roles not traditional to them. These sacrifices allowed future generations of African-American children to have opportunities that world around them may not have had available to them. The issues discussed in this book are ones that are relevant to our students and their families. People will fail you and it’s imperative you find the people around you to help when you’re hurting. This journey, for anyone is not meant to be alone.
