About the Author Connie Kay Koch started out as a child...imagine THAT!...in Sedalia, Missouri where she was born and continues to reside. Her first literary efforts were spawned in Mrs. Reno's 4th grade class at Whittier Elementary school. Growing up on the farm nurtured a natural interest in the outdoors that carried forth into careers as a Vocational Agriculture teacher and Outdoor Educator down the road. Positions with the Missouri Department of Conservation Wildlife and Fisheries departments greatly increased her knowledge of the outdoors creating a specialized interest in reptiles which resulted in more than 35 years of state-wide travel and programming with her amazing creatures. She is known in only the finest circles as 'Snake Lady' and wears the title proudly. A myriad of other interests include 50 years as an Amateur (Ham) Radio operator (WAOQCJ), SCUBA diving, sky diving, roller speed skating and coaching, kayaking, camping, Cub and Boy Scout leadin', snake handlin', boy raisin' and grandling' spoilin'. Other selections by the author have been published in; "National Future Farmer", "Missouri Farmer Today", "Skate" magazine, "Hoard's Dairyman", the Red Hat Society book, "Sassy, Classy and Still Sparkling" and numerous journals and publications. She has served as an Outdoor Trainer for The Department of Natural Resources and regional editor for "Legacy", a magazine for outdoor educators. Her contributions to "The Missouri Department of Conservation Education Series" include: "Biogeography of Missouri", "An Ecological Approach to Conservation Education" and "Soil Formation and Distribution In Missouri". The author's educational history include an Associate of Science degree in Agriculture Business at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri, a Bachelors of Science degree in Agriculture Education with a minor in Agriculture Mechanics at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, and a Masters degree in Agriculture Education at University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. 'Snake Lady' continues to field a full calendar of reptile presentations state-wide and (although just thought she was retired) continues as a full-time para-professional educator in the Sedalia District #200 school system. She aspires to continue her writing as long as the inspiration holds out and her grandling's provide their fertile source of material for future writing. There is no doubt...life is good in Connie-land!
