Running is a fantastic cardiovascular workout that floods the body with 'feel good' endorphins and many runners find its rhythmic, repetitive nature a natural stress reliever and maybe even meditative. The downside of repetitive motion, however, is that it taxes a few select groups of muscles (hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and Achilles) and neglects the remainder. This leads to muscular imbalances and, eventually, injury.
This book addresses these imbalances by using yoga postures to both stretch and lengthen these short, tight running hotspots in a way that is time-efficient and highly targeted.
Like yoga it's a union of all these physical and mental aspects that affect the performance of the runner as a whole. Practice the techniques together to become a stronger, smoother runner who is less prone to injury. Breathe deeper and more efficiently to train for longer. Gain a clear head to tackle negative distractions as you train or race, and in life generally.

These books are a stretch--in a good way for runners, cyclists. "Orlando Sentinel"
I highly recommend Lexie Williamson's book for runners because it is designed specifically for them. "Yoga for Runners "is laid out well, with photos to demonstrate each pose and yoga sequence. I specifically like how Williamson shows a pose and then includes information on which muscles that pose targets plus how to perform the pose and with how many breathes. "Women's Adventure Magazine""

2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Foundational and Exceptional book with great photo's, recommendations, and includes gait, breathing, core, and relaxation! By AlexJouJou I'm surprised this book has no reviews. It is a phenomenal book on yoga for runners!I've been doing yoga for about a year very loosely - using some online yoga options (both free and subscription). While good they are just the classes and you are somewhat limited to what the teacher is teaching. I have purchased several yoga for runners/athlete's books and, while I certainly enjoyed them, I didn't find them the best to actually *use* to form a yoga practice. I have enough smarts to realize why yoga would be beneficial and to actually apply that to practice. However a guide is super helpful and to be able to build my own yoga practice based on what is going on with my body was welcomed. This book has chapters that cover everything you would need to know to use yoga to enhance your running in many ways. Included here is also gait information and information on how to relax while running. Uniquely here I found the chapter on relaxation in motion with accompanying yoga information super helpful. I often will end up with a tense upper body if I run longer (10+ miles). There is also a chapter on breath here -- which can greatly influence capacity and endurance for running. The "core" chapters (what most people might want to know like legs, core, power yoga, etc) are strong with clear directions and great photo's. There are a variety of "blue" boxes all over the book that go into the rationale for doing a particular form or pose or even hints for when you are in the pose. I'm having a pea anserinus issue and there were exercises in here for that part of the body too!Regardless of whether you have the other yoga books (Sage Rountree's two books - one for runner's and one for athlete's, the Yoga for Runners by Christine Felstead, or Power Yoga for Athlete's by Sean Vigue -- these 4 are my favorites!) this one is well worth adding to your collection. It looks like it might be a UK based book. It's fairly easy to lay flat but not perfectly so - I may go and get it ring bound for ease of use.
