It had romance, it had loss but is was so full of raw emotion and written so well that you could vividly see each page play out in front of you. This should be a hallmark movie, it is just that good.I was so happy at the ending, I really hated seeing it come to an end.Tammy and Nick are two characters you are going to love. Nick teaches us to keep fighting for what is right and to never give up.I gave this book 5 stars two times. I HIGHLY recommend this book.I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for my honest review.

Jennifer Slattery writes Christian fiction. Not goodie-two-shoes but real people with real life issues that forge on using faith to guide and offer hope. That is the case with Nick, a divorcee with a kid on life support. Also, Tammy, abandoned with a young pair to raise plus a stress job of coordinating donor organs. One life lost saves one or more others.Tammy & Nick represent both ends of the organ donor gift. It’s not a social friendly topic but Jennifer Slattery takes the issue in hand and creates a poignant book themed on loss-hope-and faith. It jerks readers’ emotions to the limit—but it also has a romantic thread to soften readers’ rigidly-bundled nerves. This is a powerful story of how lives intertwine, sometimes for good, other times negatively. If you are after a cozy love story, this is not it. Slattery writes of love, but sometimes in real life love must survive through dark, less than idyllic paths and human choices. The author’s two protagonists have separate plots, their histories and current events, enough for two books. That makes “Intertwined” a jam-packed page-turner.Without a doubt—a story even more compelling for dads than moms. Both need to read this.Join me and thousands of others—volunteer as a life-saving organ donor via your driver license—only your soul passes to Heaven.

The main female character is named Tammy. She finds her marriage falling apart, single-parenting is more than a challenge, her work as an organ procurement coordinator fulfilling and she seeks to speak the gospel message to her clients.Nick is a divorcee who loses his firstborn son in an accident, which is how his and Tammy’s paths cross again. They had not seen each other since high school ten years ago. Nick is dealing with grief and an ex-wife who is keeping their other son away from him as she blames him for the death of their first son.I found the themes of prayer, leaning on the Lord, forgiveness, trust and more very refreshing to see in the tale. The author shows us through other minor characters what unforgiveness, bitterness and other unresolved feelings can do to an individual as well as having a rippling effect on others.Another aspect of the story that brings the aspect of reality to it is that resolving issues and dealing with emotions takes time. The subplot of a father unknown by his son and learning what he was told about his father was not truth caused Nick to go looking to find out what really became of his dad. The book doesn’t tie up all the various threads into nice packages with some threads are left hanging. I think that leaves it to the reader’s imagination as to how situations can possibly be resolved.I highly recommend Jennifer’s novel and consider the many ways we can stand beside a friend, learn from others’ mistakes and as well as our own. Readers will also be shown that finding the fulfillment we seek isn’t in a paycheck, but in sharing Jesus with whomever we meet this side of heaven!

She’s a fiancée of good fortune…

Strutting down Park Avenue in her new Manolos, Holly James looks like a woman who has it all. But beneath the Prada sunglasses, Holly has a mounting list of decidedly unfabulous problems. Right at the top? The fact that since her fiancé Jamie started spending all his time at his new restaurant (with his impossibly gorgeous sous-chef!), Holly has practically forgotten what he looks like…and started to feel a teensy bit paranoid.

…but has Holly found the right Mr Darcy?

So being kissed by film star Ciaran Duncan should have been a much-needed boost to Holly’s ego. But losing herself in the moment is impossible, since she’s still fuming after meeting English lawyer Hugh Darcy. He’s easily the most arrogant man in Manhattan and she’s engaged to be married…so why can’t Holly stop imagining kissing him? Suddenly, Holly finds herself torn between three eligible bachelors…and it’s proving more difficult than choosing between a Manolo Blanik and a Jimmy Choo – especially since men are non-refundable! What’s a New York fashionista to do?

Don’t miss Manolos in Manhattan, book three in Katie Oliver’s Marrying Mr Darcy series.

You will not be disappointed from cover to cover it has it all. Humor, love, romance, mystery, adventure and all with the same characters. I'd have to say this was an absolute wonderfully written book and series.

Not very good reading By Shopgirl Katie Oliver can't seem to decide if she wants to write mystery or romance and the result is two entirely different stories that never seem to find a seam. I bought three in a series of these books but I probably won't buy any more of her work.

#1 New York Times BestsellerThere have been many books—on a large and small scale—about Steve Jobs, one of the most famous CEOs in history. But this book is different from all the others. Becoming Steve Jobs takes on and breaks down the existing myth and stereotypes about Steve Jobs. The conventional, one-dimensional view of Jobs is that he was half-genius, half-jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike. Becoming Steve Jobs answers the central question about the life and career of the Apple cofounder and CEO: How did a young man so reckless and arrogant that he was exiled from the company he founded become the most effective visionary business leader of our time, ultimately transforming the daily life of billions of people? Drawing on incredible and sometimes exclusive access, Schlender and Tetzeli tell a different story of a real human being who wrestled with his failings and learned to maximize his strengths over time. Their rich, compelling narrative is filled with stories never told before from the people who knew Jobs best, and who decided to open up to the authors, including his family, former inner circle executives, and top people at Apple, Pixar and Disney, most notably Tim Cook, Jony Ive, Eddy Cue, Ed Catmull, John Lasseter, Robert Iger and many others. In addition, Brent knew Jobs personally for 25 years and draws upon his many interviews with him, on and off the record, in writing the book. He and Rick humanize the man and explain, rather than simply describe, his behavior. Along the way, the book provides rich context about the technology revolution we all have lived through, and the ways in which Jobs changed our world. Schlender and Tetzeli make clear that Jobs's astounding success at Apple was far more complicated than simply picking the right products: he became more patient, he learned to trust his inner circle, and discovered the importance of growing the company incrementally rather than only shooting for dazzling game-changing products. A rich and revealing account that will change the way we view Jobs, Becoming Steve Jobs shows us how one of the most colorful and compelling figures of our times was able to combine his unchanging, relentless passion with a more mature management style to create one of the most valuable and beloved companies on the planet.

Becoming Steve Jobs: The Evolution of a Reckless Upstart into a Visionary Leader, by Brent Schlender, Rick Tetzeli

Review "Steve Jobs is the person who most inspires the new generation of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. In this deeply-researched book, you'll find the most honest portrait of the real Steve Jobs." --Marc Andreessen“One of the best things Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli do in writing about Jobs is undoing the ‘lone genius’ myth, and complicating his persona.” --Anil Dash, CEO of ThinkUp"The book about Steve Jobs that the world deserves. Smart, accurate, informative, insightful and at times, utterly heartbreaking....Becoming Steve Jobs is going to be an essential reference for decades to come." --John Gruber, Daring Fireball“Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli render a spectacular service with this book, giving fresh perspective on Steve Jobs’ journey from inspiring but immature entrepreneur into an inspired and mature company-builder.  Most important, they capture Jobs’ resilience, his refusal to capitulate, his restless drive to stay in the game, his voracious appetite to learn—this, far more than genius, is what made him great.  Becoming Steve Jobs gets the focus precisely right: not as a success story, but as a growth story.  Riveting, insightful, uplifting—read it and learn!”--Jim Collins, author of Good to Great, co-author of Built to Last and Great by Choice “Becoming Steve Jobs is fantastic. After working with Steve for over 25 years, I feel this book captures with great insight the growth and complexity of a truly extraordinary person. I hope that it will be recognized as the definitive history.”--Ed Catmull, president, Disney Animation and Pixar“What makes their book important is that they contend — persuasively, I believe — that . . . [Jobs] was not the same man in his prime that he had been at the beginning of his career. The callow, impetuous, arrogant youth who co-founded Apple was very different from the mature and thoughtful man who returned to his struggling creation and turned it into a company that made breathtaking products while becoming the dominant technology company of our time."--Joe Nocera, The New York Times"Highly recommended."--Philip Elmer-DeWitt, Fortune.com "Square would not exist without the work and persistence of Steve Jobs. I am forever grateful. Amazing read."--Jack Dorsey "...Will quicken the pulse of even obsessive Apple watchers....a layered portrait of the mercurial Jobs, whose style and personality...were constantly evolving, right up to his early death."--Brad Stone, NYT Sunday Book Review    “A fascinating, insightful book that does a great job capturing what and who the man inside the public mask actually was. I’m pleased someone got to write it. It needed writing. Previous titles failed. Highly recommended.”  –Jonny Evans, ComputerWorld “Becoming Steve Jobs especially shines when it serves up opportunities to get a fresh look at Jobs’ passion for always sticking to the intersection of technology and the humanities that animated his work.” –Andy Meek, BGR “Schlender is one of the very few journalists whom Steve Jobs favored with his trust over decades of coverage….only in Becoming Steve Jobs do I recognize the complexity and warmth that I saw first-hand in Jobs, particularly in the last few years of his life.” –Steven Levy, Backchannel “If you’re interested in learning more about Steve Jobs’ life, business strategies, successes and failures, the Becoming Steve Jobs book is certainly worth your time.” --Jeremy Horwitz, 9to5Mac “Reveals lesser-known aspects of Jobs’ life….That’s really where Becoming Steve Jobs shines. It offers a unique take on the decisions (mistakes) Jobs made during his time at NeXT and Pixar.”—Harrison Weber, Venture Beat “In some ways, this biography can be likened to a college level course in "Jobsology," one that through new information provides adequate insight to flip established doctrine on its head. Exactly what Schlender and Tetzeli intended….Schlender and Tetzeli proffer a measured and deliberate chronicling of Jobs' peaks and valleys painted in the words of those who knew him best. It is a record of an incredible life that has until now only been accessible through the prism of the media and what Jobs himself would allow. It forces us to think different.” –Mikey Campbell, Apple Insider“Becoming Steve Jobs does not absolve the protagonist of his foibles, but shows that his accomplishments were indeed legion.” –The Economist “For a deeply felt account… of the qualities that earned Jobs the abiding respect and love of his closest associates… the Schlender and Tetzeli book is the best that’s currently available.”—Michael Cohen, TidBITS "...Detailed and thorough...full of intimate and personal anecdotes from Jobs' life that demonstrate how he evolved from the Steve Jobs that was ousted from Apple in the early 1990s to the man that lead the company to release its most revolutionary products."-- Lisa Eadicicco, Business Insider

The 'unauthorized' Jobs biography that has earned the praise of those who knew him best (and fills in details not known before) By Phil (not) in Mågnoliá This is a fascinating biography that I enjoyed very much, but before getting into the details of the book itself I want to quickly go back in time to when Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011 (it's hard to believe that three and a half years have already gone by since that date). At that time, the Walter Isaacson biography (Steve Jobs) had already been written.Jobs had agreed to be interviewed by Isaacson over the course of the final two years of his life, and when Isaacson's biography of Jobs was published less than three weeks after his death, on October 24, 2011, it immediately became a bestseller. His book was taken as the most thorough and authoritative description of Jobs that had been written. It did have the cooperation of Jobs himself, and did become the benchmark biography of Jobs (until today). It pulled few punches in describing Jobs volatility throughout his life and in managing his businesses. The view of most was probably that the Isaacson book was tough but fair, because the stories of how difficult Jobs could be were well known and undisputed. Now that a couple of years have gone by and people have had a chance to adjust to Jobs death and reflect, it turns out that there was a need for a more balanced look at his life, one that doesn't overlook his failings but also gives more credit to not only his great technological leadership but also his humanity and his great talents as a leader of men and women. Especially interesting are the stories of his growth as a person, and how he did learn to be more understanding and compassionate in dealing with people. We learn through reading this book that this was something he acknowledged and worked hard at improving. He knew he had faults and he tried to limit them (not always successfully). We are all aware of his accomplishments - he led and inspired (and demanded) the talented people at Apple to innovate and exceed their own expectations time after time, and although he was a stern taskmaster he also drove them to design and engineer products that were sensational to use and experience. They were transformative to industries. Jobs may not have been perfect, nobody is claiming that, but these things do not happen solely through bullying, there has to be more to it than that. And there is more to it than that. This new biography of Jobs brings out those other aspects of Jobs life and personality. And no doubt it benefits from the time that has gone by since his death, which has given everyone involved a chance to get some distance from the events of his life and put them in perspective. This book also has an even more significant difference, I feel: the authors, Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli, are two gentlemen who have known the computer industry and Jobs for many years. Schlender in particular had a relationship with Jobs that spanned almost 25 years. He did not meet Jobs for the first time when they began working on the book (and this is one of the most important differences in comparing this book to the earlier biography, because Isaacson did not know Jobs prior to working on that book, and he did not have the strong background in the computer industry that both Schlender and Tetzeli possess. He was, and is, an accomplished and well respected biographer and business executive, and among other things has been the CEO of the Aspen Institute for a number of years). Bringing out this personal connection right at the beginning, the book starts with Schlender talking about his first meeting with Jobs, in April of 1986, when he was working for the Wall Street Journal and stationed in San Francisco and he drove down to Palo Alto to meet with Jobs at the NeXT headquarters.A couple of years ago, when Schlender and Tetzeli approached Apple with their plan to write this book, they were not able to obtain the cooperation of the company or its executives. Then, after a year and a half of continued effort, the door was finally opened. They were able to meet with Apple people, as well as with Jobs widow, and the resulting fresh materials, together with the notes and documents they had already gathered, going back many years, gave them an unequalled resource of information to produce this new biography. This book provides a more comprehensive look at Jobs full career, not just the Apple years (parts I and II). There is a great deal of material describing his time at both NeXT and Pixar that I was unfamiliar with. Those years when he was separated from Apple were very important in understanding and illustrating the evolution Jobs went through as a manager and as a person over the course of his life. The executives Ed Catmull, and John Lasseter at Pixar, and Bob Iger at Disney, for example, were very influential to Jobs and this was interesting to read about. (This is a time period of his life that was almost completely overlooked in the earlier Isaacson biography). This 13-year period, beginning in September, 1985, when Jobs resigned from Apple after John Scully essentially stripped all of Jobs responsibilities from him, until late 1998 when he returned to Apple following Apple's acquisition of NeXT and the removal of Gil Amelio as CEO, is covered in detail in this book and was, to me, most interesting. It was during this period that Steve tried unsuccessfully to reproduce the magic of the Mac in the new NeXT computer, acquired a creative and well-functioning team at Pixar that resisted his micromanaging and taught him how to more skillfully lead a high performing creative group. It was also during this time that he met his future wife, Laurene Powell, married and began to raise a family. Pixar achieved it's first major success when the movie Toy Story was produced in 1995; that eventually led to his return to great wealth when Pixar was sold to Disney. All of these experiences combined over time to produce a more thoughtful and measured manager who, by the time he was asked to lead Apple again, was a far different person than the imperious and demanding 20-something who had co-founded Apple and then skyrocketed to fame and fortune when he was probably too young to handle it.And while some are now criticising this book as being more forgiving regarding Jobs, especially when compared to the Isaacson biography, I'll add one story that speaks volumes to me regarding this 'other side' of Jobs. When he returned to Apple in 1998, he faced a terribly difficult situation, the company had it's least inspiring product lineup ever, employee morale was seriously depressed, and there was a desperate need to chart a path to recover the magic that the company had held in its early days. In one of his very first leadership decisions at Apple, in learning that the stock options of the employees were all 'underwater' and valueless, he insisted that the board re-issue all those employee stock options so that they were priced at the stock value on July 7, the day that Amelio's firing was made public. He informed the employees of this in an 'all hands' memo that went out over his signature, a singular move that immediately revitalized the financial prospects for the companies employees. And he had no personal stake in that decision, because at that time he had no personal stock options of his own. The depth of his dedication to the employees of Apple could not have been more clearly shown than it was in that single action. As I read this book, having read many other stories about Jobs and having a familiarity with his life and how it developed, it can be both sad and frustrating to read once again about his failures and mistakes. At NeXT, for example, recounting the many errors made - selecting expensive magnesium for the computer case, requiring it to be built as a cube with sharp edges rather than easier to manufacture rounded corners, building the state-of-the-art factory in Fremont that would never be used to its full capability - I found myself lamenting that he hadn't been able to learn those lessons of management and discipline earlier in his life. A great waste, in many respects. Still, it is a part of his story (and a number of the innovations from NeXT would go on to live well beyond those days). Great leaders always talk about how their failures were critical to their development. Likely he would not have grown into the man he eventually became if he hadn't made those mistakes, painful though they are to replay. He was just 30 when he began NeXT, 33 when the first NeXT computer was unveiled, in grand Jobs extravaganza style at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. He was world famous and yet still a very young and immature man. The attention to detail and importance of design that was so important to him from the very beginning, even when it was impossible to implement or led to products that were too expensive to succeed commercially, would blossom in later years as the iPhone and other devices were developed and led to Apple's greatest successes. To me, the most moving story from the book was when Tim Cook realized that he and Jobs had the same blood type. That meant that Cook could potentially help Jobs fight his illness by donating a part of his own liver. But Jobs wouldn't even consider it, and the deep personal nature of that exchange, between those two men and at a time when Jobs realized that his remaining days were dwindling, was very poignant. The last part of the book is especially sad as we live through his final days, when he knew that his time was coming to an end. There are many other interesting stories here, some of which can be found elsewhere in the other reviews or on the internet already, as the early reviews are out and most of them share favorite stories or new insights that were gained from reading the book. I'll just add that this is a very human portrayal of Jobs, it is one that I believe will appeal to people who like to read biographies of business leaders, people who are fans of Apple and are looking for more insight into how it works and the people behind the products, and it will also appeal to readers who are interested in what makes a brilliant leader tick, how does the mind work and what magic must take place in order for those visions to become manifest in products and in a company that, soon after Jobs death, became the largest in the world.I also think that it is remarkable to see the support that Apple executives are now putting behind this book now that it has been released. Tim Cook, Apple's current CEO and Jobs hand-picked successor, Jony Ive, Apple's long standing head of design, and Eddy Cue, Apple's head of software and internet services, have all endorsed it. A cynic might view their praise of the book as support of something that may help to reshape Jobs image in a more flattering light, but I think that there is more to it than that. This book does not whitewash Jobs or overlook his faults. My earlier comparisons to the Isaacson biography, which until today may have been the benchmark for a Jobs biography, may sound like too much of a criticism of that book, so I will add that anyone interested in Apple and the story of the company and of Steve Jobs is probably going to want to read both books. I purchased the Isaacson book as soon as it came out, and I'll probably go back and read it again now. There are portions of Jobs life and Apple history that are covered in the Isaacson book and not so much (or at all) in this new book. I think that one of the other reviewers makes the point that the two books should be viewed as complimentary, and I think that is the right way to look at it.By the time of his death, Steve Jobs had become an icon of the business world, having achieved a stature that only a few American business executives have ever reached (Jack Welch at GE being perhaps the most recent, prior to Jobs). This is a fascinating look at him and his company, and after reading it I have the feeling that I may be just a bit closer to understanding what he was like. I wouldn't try to claim that this book is definitive - Jobs was complex enough and accomplished so much during his life that no single biography is going to provide everything that could be written about him. I do have the feeling that it may be the closest yet.

All about explaining and forgiveness but less comprehensive than Isaacson's book By Alberto Vargas I have been a big fan of the work of Apple and Jobs, and I have read other books and articles over the years about them. So I was very much looking forward to this book and pre-ordered and read it as soon as I could.Overall I am not disappointed. That said, it was speculated in the press that the goal of this book was to shed Job's old image as a genius and sociopath, and the book does try hard to do this at the expense of being comprehensive about Jobs.Good:- Overall narrative focused on Jobs's personal growth over the years- Shorter and easier to read and follow than the Bible-length bio by Isaacson- Focused on relationships rather than products or events- Includes plenty of quotes and anecdotes not seen before, especially from people close to Jobs during his second tenure at Apple- Sheds light on his final years with cancer and the work on the iPhone and iPad (something Isaacson did not do as well)- Good insights on Jobs's thinking about products and business decisions- Shows Jobs's human side; I loved the stories about him helping someone jump start his car or being late for the Stanford commencement addressBad:- Very incomplete and not comprehensive. This should not be your first or only book about Apple or Jobs. Isaacson, although too long, is better overall.- Completely omits quotes and anecdotes from bad relationships. Why nothing from Job's girlfriend and mother of his estranged first daughter? Why nothing from Lisa, his first daughter? Why so little from Woz, the cofounder of Apple? Why nothing from Jobs's biological or adoptive parents?- If family was really so important to Jobs (and I believe it), why not tell us more about them and how he chose to relate to them? Jobs was apparently very private and protective about his family during his life - why not shed more light now that he is gone? How did he choose to raise his children? Why not mention more about Mona Simpson, his biological sister, or include her eulogy of Jobs after his death (can be found in NYT)?Overall this book glosses over the negative and tries to explain Steve Jobs's personality. Since this ultimately tries to get to Jobs's motivation and values, I found I learned something new and it gave me food for thought about my own relationships at work and at home.Ultimately, this feels like the book that Laurene (Job's widow), Jony Ive (Apple design chief) and Tim Cook (Apple CEO) wanted written about their Steve. And this is the book's main failing. It is history rewritten by the winners, as it were.Recommended with reservations. Read Isaacson first.UPDATE 4/5/2015:I have been rereading Isaacson's bio of Jobs in bits and pieces after I finished this book. I find Isaacson's book much better, chock full of anecdotes, and also funnier. And unlike this book, it also presents Jobs as very flawed which it appears he was.

Growth, Love, and Beauty: the Self-Made Soul of Apple By Jesse McCarthy Steve Jobs famously said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.” *Becoming Steve Jobs*, by Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli, does a wonderful job of connecting the dots of Steve Jobs’ passionate life. With new first-hand accounts and insights into Jobs’ personal and professional growth, *Becoming Steve Jobs* offers a glimpse into the tremendous work it took for an “inconsiderate“ and “rash” young visionary to develop himself into a caring and deliberate leader who so deeply valued -- and inspired in others -- one thing above all else: a love of and dedication to creating the beautiful in work, in life.GROWTH.In *Becoming Steve Jobs*, we see Jobs develop. At times, we encounter him at his worst: an emotionally erratic young man sitting in a parking lot, literally crying in shame after losing control of himself in a meeting; an arrogant 20-something who thinks “he could probably do anybody’s job better than they could” (Schlender & Tetzeli); a pained adult having to finally end production on his beloved NeXT computers. We see his beginnings, and his faults. But we also see the steps he takes to grow, to overcome weaknesses and learn from mistakes. For instance, we see him genuinely apologizing for inappropriate outbursts. We hear from colleagues such as John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer at Pixar, that he could inspire those around him “to do amazing things he knew he couldn’t do himself.” And of course we see his incredible comeback to Apple (after it purchases NeXT) and the fantastic computers he creates while there. Time and again, we see Steve Jobs neither as a lucky boy in the right place at the right time nor as a fully formed tech messiah with God-given talents. Instead, we see the growth of a self-made soul, a man who worked -- and worked and worked -- every step of the way to become a visionary leader.LOVE.From the words of those who knew Steve Jobs best, we learn that he was a man who profoundly loved his work:“Steve loved ideas and loved making stuff, and he treated the process of creativity with a rare and wonderful reverence.” --Jony Ive, Apple’s VP of Design and one of Jobs’ closest friends“He loved this company.” --Ed Catmull, President of Pixar“He loved it. He was like a kid.” --Lasseter on how Steve would excitingly show Pixar movies to all his neighbors“No one else I ever covered was so passionate about the creations of his business.” --Schlender & TetzeliAnd by so loving his work, Steve inspired those around him to do the same. As Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook says, “Steve cared. He cared deeply about things. Yes, he was passionate about things, and he wanted things to be perfect. And that was what was great about him. He wanted everyone to do their best work.”BEAUTY.Steve Jobs found beauty in “the marriage” of technology with humanities, and he accomplished that union in a world-changing way. It was his uniquely integrated technical and aesthetic vision that was at the core of the personal computer revolution, making possible the movement from million-dollar, bulky mainframes that could barely fit in an office, to inexpensive, beautiful smartphones that glide easily into our pockets. Jobs had an all-encompassing “love of beauty,” says his wife Laurene, and ultimately it was this love of the beautiful, his (self-proclaimed) joy in “making wonderful things” that drove him.Overall, *Becoming Steve Jobs* is an engaging biography of Jobs’ life that neither sugarcoats his shortcomings nor belittles his brilliance (as sycophants and cynics have no doubt attempted elsewhere). Rather, it confirms in a well-researched and well-told story what those closest to Jobs have said for years: that despite his weaknesses -- many of which he grew to overcome -- Steve was a great man, whose joyous success in the real world is, as Jony Ive so powerfully stated in a funeral tribute to his friend, “a victory for beauty, for purity, and, as [Steve] would say, for giving a damn.”

"Lay Low and Live" is what's kept Bonnie James alive for three years. As resident fix-it girl for a tiny apartment complex in an even tinier Texas town, she makes enough money to pay the bills, but being on the run is lonely. Then Bonnie's latest one-night stand turns out to be the bounty hunter sent to track her down, and more importantly, find the sister she thought was dead. Wynn Collier is in big trouble: He's got to find what Bonnie's hiding and deliver it to his latest client—On Time Or Else. Manhandling Bonnie violates his personal code, but Wynn is more than happy to use sexier, more entertaining, forms of persuasion to get what he wants. Living outside the law comes at a high price for the both of them…but so does settling down.

Permit me to explain:I started reading Nailed (which was given to me in exchange for this honest review) and like all books I immediately started judging it. It was cute – super cute. Female Peeping Tom (what do you call that anyway?) being chased by hot-as-sin Knee Breaker. I gotcha. So at first, I’m all: This is so cute, the writing is good, I like the character descriptions/interactions – you know, the things you mentally list for reviewing later. So ok, let’s move on. I am reading this book, and all I can think is “This is not realistic.” Well you know what, SHAME ON ME! I have never been chased by bad guys because of family drama, so how the hell do I know what’s realistic?! So I get down off of my high horse and just read the damn book.Well, I read the whole damn book. In. One. Sitting. It snuck up on me, playing the “I’ll finish one more chapter and then go to bed” game. Amie won that battle every freaking time. I was supposed to be able to function the next day, I had to work, but did I stop reading? NO! Why? Because I had to know what happened! So if you like suspenseful romance, you don’t have to look any further. Nailed is fan-freaking-tastic, slowly pulling you in and before you realized what’s happening, your fingers refuse to let go, you eyes refuse to stay closed for longer than a quick blink. It’s like potato chips – you start off thinking you’ll eat a few and BAM! the bag is empty.

Funny By Adria Reyes * A copy of this book was provided by the publisher via Reading Alley for the purpose of an honest review. On the run for over three years, Bonnie James has temporarily settled in a tiny Texas town as the resident fix-it-all girl of a small apartment complex. Making just enough to pay the bills, Bonnie does everything possible to keep a low profile until her latest one night stand turns out to be a bounty hunter sent to track her and her supposedly dead sister down.Wynn Collier needs to find Bonnie and deliver what she’s hiding to his client by the deadline he was given or else someone will be sent to deal with her permanently. Instead of employing the usual rough handling, Wynn seduces Bonnie over and over again until he suddenly finds himself falling for the very woman who could end up getting him killed. So for a short erotic story, Nailed was pretty fun. I had no idea what to expect from author Amie Stuart, but a quick, exciting romp wasn’t it. Bonnie is a quick thinker with a sassy attitude. Even with a gun to her head, she doesn’t take crap from anyone. She’s no fool though and that’s what made it more interesting.Wynn was not what I expected. For a man who came from a questionable family, he was surprisingly hesitant to physically hurt, let alone kill anyone. His snarky attitude covered a very empathetic and somewhat sensitive heart. Still, he had some pretty heated exchanges with Bonnie that alternated between funny and sexy.Nailed to me felt like one of those “On the Run” kind of movies where there’s a bit of everything: Sex, love, action, danger, mystery and humor but I think because there’s a little of everything, I felt like the overall book didn’t reach its potential in every department. The author stops just short of the mark, making some of the scenes feel incomplete. The rushed ending for Wynn and Bonnie didn’t help either.Final Verdict: Still, there was enough about Nailed to chuckle about and I didn’t mind this runaround story with kooky characters.

Julie Burt is on the run and hiding out in an out of the way town in Texas. Under the assumed name of Bonnie James she fills her days with maintaining the only apartment complex in town and her nights with living vicariously as a peeping Tom or is that Tomasina? Life is lonely. Her life as a fix it woman is a hell of long way from the college educated go getter commercial real estate agent’s life she left behind. But the suspicious deaths of her sister and brother in law sent her on the run within hours of hearing about their deaths three years ago. Having read everything she could on staying off the grid and studying everything about mob enforcers and the like she and her cat, Clyde live life in a paranoid state. Julie is a smart cookie and has an uncanny sense of when she’s being stalked or lied to. So after a hot hook up with a tourist named Wynn she has no intentions of a repeat performance with the over inquisitive man.Wynn Collier has been looking for Julie for the past eighteen months. He figures he knows about all there is to know about Julie and he’s finally tracked her down. Too bad he hadn’t figured that out before he bedded her last night. Now he can’t seem to find the distance to just treat her as a job. She is so far from just a job. While Wynn is in the family business he just can’t muster what it takes to be a cold hearted killer, a hard hitting interrogator maybe but not a killer. When Julie gets under his skin Wynn’s code of ethics kick in big time. Soon the two of them are doing whatever it takes to figure a way out of her dilemma. In the meantime the heat between the two just keeps climbing the thermostat. In the background you have some interesting secondary characters in the residents of the apartment complex. Challenges come in the form of Wynn’s hard headed cold blooded hitman brother, FBI agents and the shadow of Wynn’s father hanging over them. Julie’s crazy cat, Clyde adds comedic relief. If you’re into a bit of suspense, adventure and mystery with a hot hero and feisty heroine then Nailed has it going on. All in all Nailed was a fun ride.Review copy provided via Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review.

Should be burned or shot to space By Jeremiah lugtu The good:*Provides good background of terminologies-If you're looking for just the terminologies; stop reading after Chapter 1*Gives easy to understand code examplesThe Caveat:*Strictly HTML-If you're looking to buy a book for learning how to develop websites, look elsewhere.. This is strictly HTML4.01; Look for something that will teach you HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The bad:*Marketed as something relevant (when it's not).-This book is about HTML4.01 (something released way back in 1999), the current HTML used in recent years is HTML5 (released mid 2014) and is the "unofficial" standard HTML for today's websites.*Code examples are only upto beginner levelWho is it for:*I can only recommend the book for those who are already have a grasp of web development and recently took up a job to refresh old websites. Even then many of the information inside the book can be found by reading a couple of articles from the w3c or just a quick reference to HTML4.01 elements.

By Matthew Just received this book and did a quick and rapid scan. The book provides information somewhere between complete noob to novice when it comes to hackers, and computers and the internet of things. If you grew up around and in computers then you probably know more than this book will tell you.-or-If your not so computer-wise it wouldn't be a bad idea to get this book and get some basic ideas on terminology and keeping your computer somewhat safe. (If your like my mom who never updates, changes passwords, or does scans.)This book received 3 stars because I expected more precise and in-depth technical explanations. The headline was slightly misleading as well, this book does not tell or even touch the subject of hacking for personal use. I also found some things that were outdated, even for 2015.Overall, this book is a very basic explanation on what hacking is and all the crazy terminology that surrounds it.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Good read... lots of typos By Nahuel Pastorale Pretty good starter info. Gives a clear view of the basic definitions and techniques used. It's a short book but worth reading. It also is full, FULL of typos, which disturbs the reading of any book

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. OMG! What a POS! Do not waste your time or money By RErickson7 Wow, what a terribly written book. If I could give 0 stars, I would. It appears that this person Isaac Sharpe, felt a sudden need to write a book and so sat down one day and in an inspired flurry, wrote down everything he could remember from the seminar he just took. Or something equivalent to that, because for example, there are so many typos and so many grammar mistakes that it is obvious no one read it a 2nd time before going to the printer. Even worse, there does not appear to be a Technical Editor involved at all. So nobody to fact-check or even double check some of Isaac's reasoning. For example, open the back cover to the headline, something akin to "Free Video on YouTube shoe this tactic," or something like that. He wants to "shoe" it to us? Obviously they meant "show" it to us, but when you're too lazy to even correct that, you know the rest of the book is worthless.

A medical breakthrough explained by the leading authority on the connection between health and your body clock

Chronotherapy-adjusting the care of the body to coincide with the body's natural clock-is poised to be the next major revolution in medical science. An understanding and awareness of these rhythms will enable us to maximize the effects not only of medications and other treatments, but also of diets, exercise programs, and other daily routines. The Body Clock Guide to Better Health combines a detailed discussion of major issues such as sleep, exercise, and nutrition, with a comprehensive A-to-Z reference to specific disorders. Among the health concerns it addresses are AIDS, arthritis, asthma, ADD, backache, cancer, depression, diabetes, digestive problems, allergies, heart disease, chronic pain, sexual dysfunction, stroke, and complications from pregnancy. General chapters explore the big picture-including monthly cycles and life cycles-and provide invaluable advice on foods and dietary supplements, fitness, better sex, jet lag, and more. The first book to look at body rhythms from a practical perspective, The Body Clock Guide to Better Health offers readers the dual benefits of improving the treatment of specific conditions while boosting their overall health and wellness.

Amazon.com Review We've all used the terms night owl and early riser; all felt the intense hunger pangs of midday and the subsequent ebb of energy after lunch; and all know what time of day we prefer to exercise or have sex. As explained in The Body Clock Guide to Better Health, these are normal cycles controlled by a sort of biological timepiece (housed in the brain's hypothalamus) that regulates everything from sleeping and eating patterns to heart rate, body temperature, and hormone production. These rhythms are vital to everyday functioning, yet, the authors claim, they're mostly overlooked when doctors prescribe treatment. This oversight, they suggest, diminishes the effectiveness of medical care; the potential for recovery and better health is enhanced when the timing of medication and other treatment is aligned with certain internal rhythms.

The Body Clock is an exhaustive guide to the merits of chronotherapy, which synchronizes healthcare with the patient's internal clock. This can be as simple as taking pain relievers at the time of day the body will best benefit from the medication, such as several hours before the patient's pain threshold will be at its lowest. (For most people, this is in the early morning; for this reason you're probably better off scheduling dental work in the late afternoon if possible.) Chronotherapy also has been shown to be effective for people managing chronic health problems such as asthma, fibromyalgia, and arthritis.

The authors, Michael Smolensky, who is director of the Memorial-Hermann Chronobiology Center and a professor at the University of Texas-Houston's School of Public Health, and Lynne Lamberg, a health writer, explain how monitoring one's clock by keeping a "chronorecord"--a personal chart that maps variations in mood, alertness, sleep cycle, eating habits, and symptoms of pain--can empower us in achieving long-term vitality. Chapter by chapter, they show how timing is everything, whether applied to weight loss, sleep, sex, exercise, or recovery from illness. In the section "Sickness and Health from A to (Nearly) Z," they address issues ranging from depression and hay fever to heartburn and skin disorders, giving practical advice on how to integrate awareness of the body clock and conventional treatment methods. For example, application of topical treatments such as moisturizers and hydrocortisone creams may be more beneficial in the afternoon than the morning because body temperature is higher and the skin more porous. Chronobiology may also explain the seasonality of illnesses: multiple sclerosis tends to worsen in late spring and summer; testicular cancer is diagnosed more in winter; and postmenopausal women detect their own breast cancers most frequently in the fall, probably due to "annual cycles in ... hormone activity or seasonal changes in melatonin secretion."

Aside from the insight we gain into our body's rhythms, perhaps The Body Clock's most valuable contribution is its advocacy of a more holistic understanding of bodily cycles and our capacity for healing. While not a replacement for conventional medical care, chronotherapy may at least give a helping hand in the process of recovery and health maintenance, adding a more personal dimension to the ordinary routines of conventional medical care. The Body Clock is an engaging resource for those who take, or want to take, an active role in wellness. --Rebecca Wright

From Publishers Weekly A leading authority in the field of "chronotherapy"Aadjusting medical treatment to align with the body's natural clockASmolensky starts with an overview of how people's circadian rhythms affect their health and then explains treatments for a variety of ailments. Though still not fully understood or recognized by many in the medical profession, chronomedicine is important, the authors argue, for several reasons, among them: illness symptoms can vary by time of day, and the hour of day can affect diagnosis and treatment. For example, blood pressure increases in the morning; that's why there are more fatal heart attacks and strokes in the morning than at any other time of day. Similarly, different cancer treatments have been shown to be more effective if they're given at a particular time of day. The sections on specific health problems (such as headaches, peptic ulcers and high blood pressure) are clear and concise; readers can walk away with steps to modify their diet and medicine regimen. Though Smolensky's book contains many digressions into other kinds of body rhythms, such as menstrual cycles, his guide makes a competent introduction to an intriguing new field of health. Mccullar Because angels don't have bodies they don't need to read THE BODY CLOCK GUIDE TO BETTER HEALTH. For the rest of us - because we are human - it is a MUST read. And what a read! The book is just terrific! It must have taken years to summarize all the research about how the body is influenced by time be it hours, days, weeks, season, or years. After introducing the subject, The Body Clock helps the reader figure out if she or he is a lark (morning person) or an owl (night person). It explains what this means for your job, your marriage, and your social relationships. I learned from this book how to use the body's natural rhythms to my advantage and how to modify them if I need to. I found out when is the best time of day for me, personally, to make important decisions. The Body Clock's comprehensive section about insomnia and how to deal with it in all of its various forms is spectacular. The tools are there to figure out exactly what kind of insomnia one has and how to work around it. It also wisely points out when one should see a doctor about the problem. Things I have experienced all my life and never really understood, such as that mid-afternoon drag when I feel like taking a nap, are explained. This book is a how-to-guide for travelers who move between time zones and for those who must do shift work. It has fascinating information about the optimal time of day to consume vitamins and when to avoid coffee. But these are just a sampling. This book has changed the way I live my life, for example when I work out and when I go to sleep at night. On the topic of exercise it corrects out-of-date information with the latest research results. This eye-opening book includes information on why teenagers act the way they do. Often neglected topics relating to aging are considered including male hormones. I am going to buy this book for everyone on my holiday gift list-no kidding! There is something in it for everyone. The last half of the book summarizes what is known about time and every imaginable illness and disease. I believe I will return to The Body Clock to re-read the sections that are relevant for me again and again. This is because there are time related elements for so many health problems. The Body Clock is a book I don't want to loan out because I want it handy to consult when I get a cold or if I develop back pain or any of the other 30 to 40 medical problems assessed, each of which has a chapter of its own. Everything from high blood pressure to nosebleeds, from skin problems to toothache, from gout to heart disease is discussed. If you care about your body, you need this book. The Body Clock is a pleasure to read. Authors Smolensky and Lamberg make complex topics easy to understand because they write clearly and succinctly. They avoid complicated medical terms altogether and for this I am grateful. I don't have a lot of time for reading but this book is efficient - it doesn't waste a minute or a page. It gives enormous value for your time and money investment. It is so interesting that I didn't want it to end! It is a fun book too - and I learned so much. I can't remember a book I have been able to say this about in a long long time. Authors Smolensky and Lamberg - this reader wants to thank you for writing it.

By Joy Olson In this era of hightened interest of alternative medicine, therapy, etc., this book presents a logical, if overlooked, method of enhancing your health in a simple, natural, no-cost manner. While it would be difficult to remember, much less implement, all of the suggestions made here, many make sense and will stick with the reader (no more morning dental appointments for me!).The authors have done a thorough job in documenting their findings and combining ancient wisdom with modern application. If you are interested in "thinking out of the box" and taking a proactive approach to your own health, this book will be a fascinating read.

From my studies in psychology, it was apparent to me that our lives are composed of patterns. We often awake at the same time and often become tired at the same time each evening, especially if a regulated sleeping pattern is followed. We generally have a schedule, or a certain order, in which we complete tasks when we do arise. Where sit at the dinner table, what time we leave for work and arrive home again, the order in which we dress ourselves, the order in which we perform our household chores, the path we take around the aisles of the supermarket - all these, and many more, comprise the patterns of our lives, and the patterns are unique to each individual person. This book allows one to develop a personal record monitoring such factors or "patterns" as alertness, pain threshold, hunger, sleeping patterns, etc. Our biological clock tells us when the best time is to perform a number of functions each and every day. Just as some individuals are more productive first thing in the morning others are more productive, particularly creative people, late at night or at 3 a.m. when others are sleeping soundly. Based on chronotherapy, "The Body Clock Guide to Better Health" suggests how to synchronise your health care and internal clock, based on your individualized body rythms. Your heart rate, body temperature and hormone production vary with your personal internal clock. This, in turn, influences such things as the best time to take medication, the easiest time to detect disease and even assists you in determining the ideal time, if their is such a thing as an "ideal" time, to have dental work completed. Generally, there is a time when each individual is more tolerant of pain, so if you are planning to have root canal work, you probably should not have this completed when your tolerance for pain is at its lowest. The material has clearly been thoroughly researched from a scientific approach and well written by authors who have extensive exerience in their chosen fields. What most impressed me about the book was the "completeness" of the subject matter. The material is in-depth, easy and enjoyable to read, and the content holds your attention from start to finish.
