They traverse a wide range of topics and cover practically all the disputed points between the different Protestant bodies, the contentions between materialism and Christianity and the divergent issues between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The century that has elapsed since they agitated the religious folk has seen many changes in religious thought. The point of view has shifted from the ecclesiastical and philosophical to the scientific and social. New sects have been born and grown to strength and others have risen only to die. The Christian horizons have been enlarged from township scope to world inclusions, but the principles of these debates have not been outgrown nor become obsolete.It is believed that these discussions have a mission to this age of rather loose religious thinking and statement. Whatever could be said, pro and con, on the contested ideas was stated by men of learning, character, spirituality and forensic ability. These debates commanded the attention of the leaders of their day both in the religious and political spheres. They strengthened the love of the truth and fired the passion to place Church and State on foundations in which no flaws could be found, which would stand the utmost hammering of their bitterest foes.They also hastened rather than retarded Christian union. After they were over men understood Christianity better than before and realized that with all their seeming differences they were closer together than had been supposed. BUT his books, including this one, are written for the "man on the street" on the journey of faith. For those who might "roll their eyes" about a commentary on Ecclesiastes ... this will open the eyes of your heart.

Hurst In this book Ryken takes up the hard task of walking through the book of Ecclesiastes right to the gospel of Jesus. Ecclesiastes tackles the big questions of life: why I am here? and what is the meaning of life? This is a deeply God centered book. Ryken masterfully shows us how this book takes us from an earth-centered view of reality (looking at live and living life "under the sun") to a God-centered view of reality (looking at life and living life from "above the sun"). It is the gospel that gives our lives on earth meaning and it is the gospel that Ecclesiastes points us to.Everything you have come to love and expect from Ryken comes out in this book. He is always close to the text and as such brings the text close to our hearts, showing us where we need to change and how the gospel gives us the power to do so. Admirably clear, wonderfully readable, eminently practical By Joseph Avant The word “work” is so vague as to have almost no meaning except to serve as the opposite of “rest.” The all too often unhealthy significance of this observation encapsulates that which Harris Kern seeks to address in this book. Work, whatever its meaning may be for each of us, is both very real and very necessary and, unfortunately, for some it is an addiction. The roots of this addiction can reside in any number of a person’s unique psychological disposition but, as Kern seeks to make clear in this book, dispositions can be habituated into productive ways of life just as much as they all too often are haphazardly habituated into destructive ways of life. Kern has successfully championed this fact in a number of his previous books, but what separates Kern’s project in this book from that of his others is the way in which the case study here is himself. That is, in this book we are given a candid look into how he transformed himself from a professionally successful businessman struggling with the consequences of his drive toward success into a very influential mentor of self-discipline to others who have found themselves in a similar situation. Especially noteworthy is the candor which he provides his reader regarding the morally dark side of ambition mixed with financial success. By Chuck R I don't mind being labeled a workaholic as long as I'm happy and can maintain a quality of life with all of my activities, at least that's what I thought until I read this book. Many of us are guilty of working too many hours and forgoing other priorities that are important for our well-being.Kern was on top of the world dedicating so much of his life to his career and exercise that he abandoned a relationship with his wife, family and God. It was certainly an eye-opening depiction of how easily it is to take a hard fall and lose everything. This same scenario could happen to anyone. It woke me up so much that I started following his recommendations on how to proactively maintain balance to keep the things that are so important in life front and center. This book helped me plenty to fulfill a better lifestyle. I'm sure it would help anyone.

From the outside, I look like an unfocused person, but I always think about the next project. To the detriment of slowing down sometimes to be fully happy. If a project temporarily blows up, I do something else until it comes back. But, I'm always working...on something.I needed this book to remind me that to keep my life in perspective, I need to do more that doesn't involve my work. That I can find just that tiny nudge back to a balanced life. I found it an easy, engaging read that directly speaks to the unfocused workaholic in all of us.

I did not find it a very good reference or manual, as it mostly just tells you how to do things for the assignments of the class and does not go into great detail on the subject matter. I'm sure this book would be extremely useful while taking the Apple training course it was written for, where you could ask the teacher the detailed questions that the book does not cover.Too bad there is not a Pogue's Missing Manual for OS X Server. I have several of his works and they are generally excellent, since they are not geared towards students but users.

By Mej A solid debut novel. Comparisons to Christopher Moore are well suited because of the humor in the story. Rhoades Grad student and aspiring crime writer Dominick Prince just wants his professor to sign off on his thesis so he can move on into the nice writing fellowship he sees as his ticket out of Detroit. But when the snotty Parker Farmington refuses to put his name on the dotted line, Dominick concocts a plot with the professor's equally disgruntled girlfriend and her insane bounty hunter brother to kidnap him and force him to sign. Poor Dominick is quickly in over his head, because let's face it, this schmendrick would be out of his depth in a rain puddle.The plot ricochets from place to place, with bizarre and hilarious characters and situations popping up and recurring with the surreal almost-logic of a bad dream. There's a lot of "WTF?" followed by a lot of "ROTFL!" Hardcore crime fiction fans will spot a few in-jokes here. I confess, this book took a little getting used to at first, but pretty soon I was digging it. Highly recommended.

Wicked Little Sucker of a Book By David Corbett I’m having trouble thinking of any better way to describe this book than Laura Lippmann has with “black comedy with heart,” or Lou Berney did when he described it as “one hundred pounds of demented humor in a fifty-pound sack.” Those who, like Michael Koryta and Anthony Neil Smith, have praised the author’s unique voice are also on point. Nothing happens as planned in this story, and more than a few plot turns caught me completely off-guard. The humor – and it’s a very funny book – relies on brutal candor about ego, ambition, and the hapless optimism of the unlucky. The characters are forever whirling blindly and blithely toward their own unique disasters. As I read I caught myself thinking more than once: “No, don’t do that. Stop. Go back. Please. Oh God.” Give this book a whirl. To quote one of the characters: “It’s … messy and beautiful.”

Marvellously wise and practical By sheep1 Some books on spirituality are frustratingly vague, full of feel-good guidance but not adding up to very much and leaving the reader with a sense of ‘Okay - so what exactly should I do now?’ This book is so good because it’s a fantastic combination of spiritual wisdom and practical steps. It’s organised very clearly in 8 chapters, representing 8 weeks of spiritual practice in different areas. (It’s probably not coincidental that the 8 step model mirrors the eightfold paths of Buddhism and Yoga.) There are a variety of different meditation techniques and also tests and questionnaires, so that you can gain an idea of your level of development in different areas.The organisation of the book seems to mirror to the author’s own sharp, organising intelligence, which is evident in the clarity of his concepts. One very useful concept he presents is the distinction between ‘the ego formed self’ and the ‘authentic self.’ His idea of spirituality as a process of transforming the former into the latter is a stroke of genius. The book attempts a much needed integration of psychology and spirituality. It brings transcendence and transformation into the sometimes arid field of psychology, and brings intellectual clarity into the often fuzzy confused domain of spirituality. It moves spirituality away from the religious and spiritual traditions with which it’s often associated, and treats ‘awakening’ as a natural psychological state which is potentially available to us all. It’s filled with great insights into the psychological mechanisms which keep us in imprisoned in our egos, explaining how thought creates separation and how our concepts determine our perceptions. The whole book is inspiring and enlightening, and a powerful clarion call for us to begin the glorious adventure of spiritual development.

Outstanding guide for personal and spiritual development By Amazon Customer Awareness is Freedom: The Adventure of Psychology and Spirituality is a book that could well change your life. Don’t let its easy going style and simply stated concepts fool you. Dr. Itzvan is taking you gently into deep water where only the masters of spirituality swim. He uses psychological self-testing to highlight brilliantly a focus on deepening self-awareness and a spirituality that is not taught so much as it is discovered along the pathway of personal maturing. The author takes the reader through specific elements of personal psychological structures and relates how spirituality can create new options through heightened awareness through meditation and weekly exercises that explore that week’s lesson. This is not your grandfather’s psychology, either. It is grounded in contemporary psychology based on neuroscience. A major contribution of this book is that the reader begins to understand the process itself and how spirituality actually affects the psychological process. Our culture, which is so concept and word driven, could well add meditative practices to assist in accomplishing what psychotherapy has also intended to achieve. As Dr. Itzvan affirms, psychology and spirituality are complementary and not in opposition. The book is a tremendous guide and handbook for a person who is willing to make the effort to live a more fulfilling life. Steven Spidell.

Dr Ivtzan has brought together cutting edge psychology with a (secular) understanding of spirituality and its importance to human wellbeing. As someone who rejected religion in his 20s, I've spent another 15 years searching for a way of re-connecting with the spiritual nature of life, without being required to buy into religious dogma, or unsubstantiated claims about the nature of life or the universe. That's not to say that this book is incompatible with religion - far from it: I'm sure people of faith will find their own sense of spirituality deepened and strengthened by this book - but that it is not necessary to be religious (or to believe anything without evidence) in order to get the best from it.This is a practical book. It acknowledges that just *reading* about something is not enough to really *understand* it, or to make changes in your life. At the heart of the practice is meditation, and Ivtzan introduces the reader to various forms of meditation, inviting the reader to explore what works best for them. There are short, daily exercises, too, to start to liberate yourself from ego-centric ways of thinking that can limit our ability to engage with the world fully and authentically. Throughout the book, the emphasis is on finding what works for you, what is important to you, and not on prescribing a set path to 'enlightenment'.This is an important book. With the decline of formal religion in the West, and the rise of individualism and capitalism, the challenge is not to lose our sense of connection with something bigger than ourselves - whether for you that means God, or Higher Power, or humanity, or community, or family, or Nature, or the Universe. Who are we? What is important to us? Who is important to us? How do we see the world around us? Ivtzan offers a practical solution to this challenge, taking the best from science, and the best from various spiritual traditions, to provide not the answers, but a method for discovering the answers for yourself, and for living a life that feels right, satisfying, and authentic *to you*.

It walks you through the basics (GM:S interface, resource management, creating sprites). It also gives an introduction to GML and the game you make near the end even utilizes GML. It also features chapters on exporting and debugging. It explains everything very well. It's nice to not only know how some code works but also why you would use it.Overall I'd say this is an excellent book for someone starting out or a good refresher. I had been messing around with GM:S for a couple of months now but usually doing random tutorials. This book set me on a more instructed path and explained a lot of things I had been using but not understanding.

Highly recommended especially for any teens that are looking for a hobby and have a desire in video games and how they work.

I do know about essential oils, and was looking for more in depth information. I felt the author is trying to speak to those who don't know a lot about essential oils. She did start at the beginning, and provided some good information. She shared her favorite oils and recipes. With that being said, I felt she should have provided new users some precautions, such as.. Start using oils on the bottom of your feet only. Cinnamon is a hot oil, and will burn your skin if you don't dilute it. The book suggested diluting as a option, however in many cases it is a necessity. It didn't mention that water intensifies oils, not necessarily a good thing with hot oils. How to dilute an oil you have a reaction to, like putting more carrier oil on top or adding lavender to it. It didn't mention that eucalyptus is toxic when taken internally, yet suggested it in a recipe. It never mentioned that you never put an essential oil on open sores or in your ears. This book could have been better titled so you know what your getting. Something like recipes for weight loss, stress, and anxiety. The word "ultimate" in the title makes it sound like you are buying the bible on oils.

Before reading this book I knew very little about what benefits that various oils were best known for. I also had little knowledge of the various ways that the oil may be collected, and the grades. Journey to Purpose: A Teen's Guide to Identify, Activate & Walk in Purpose, by Nathan J. Shaw Jr.About the Author The Founder and President of Youth Empowerment Project Inc. (YEP), a national organization created to equip, expose and empower students to succeed, Nathan J Shaw, Jr. is a man on a mission to help youth and young adults break the cycle of poverty by helping them "identify, activate and walk in their purpose." Nathan began working with youth when he was just 17 years old, while serving in his church’s youth ministry. Over the past 10 years he has helped develop programs, activities and events including parent-teen workshops, teen summits, youth radio shows, career exploration events exposing students to unique professions and life skills, and a youth ran clothing line -- to empower youth towards success. Nathan is also the Program Director at FOUR 12, a weekly after school program serving at risk middle school, high school and college students in Orlando's inner city communities. Nathan’s goal is to challenge youth to find ways to empower their minds on a daily basis. Nathan believes that working with youth is not just a duty or position, but a lifestyle; and that is a lifestyle he lives every day. Nathan resides in Orlando, Florida. Good book to learn python language By Jesus The Python language is one of the many types of coding that currently exist in terms of computer science refers to develop programs. I got this book through a discount coupon in exchange for uan and honest review that I go. The language Python is not that which is most difficult of all, because I think there are others like the C ++ that have made more complicated but it depends on each person, in the book you explain very well the basics of python and that It is good as well you enter fully into the subject, on the other hand the author already has a reputation in these books and I must say Sam Key is very good at explaining clearly and concisely in his books, that leads them to be understandable by anyone who is interested in the field, another book of good arguments, I feel something is missing but more generally is the best.

Excellent book By Betty Lopez Honestly, this book is excellent, I do not think it was possible to learn much about the Python language in one day, but I say that with this book you can. The definitions are very precise and direct, has examples that are explained step by step to learning the codes, also has illustrations that solve many doubts, it is very didactic, it is not difficult to read, the things that you can do with this programming language are impressive, along with the C ++ language (that is also explained in the book) you will get important basic knowledge, this book will be a proper and efficient help in the field of programming software.

The Author really did his best to illustrate the step by step instructions and preparations for running the program successfully. It is perfect for everybody and especially for beginners like me. I have leaned a lot from this book. I would definitely give this five stars and highly recommend this book to anyone want to start learning Python Programming.
